KEA uses a 50:50 equal weightage formula to calculate Engineering merit ranks:
Final Merit Rank Score = (50% of KCET PCM Percentage) + (50% of Class 12 / 2nd PUC PCM Percentage)
Note: Class 12 marks from CBSE, ICSE, and non-Karnataka boards are normalized before calculating final ranks to ensure equal fairness with State PUC Board scores.
6. Step-by-Step Admission Process
- Fill Application Online: Register on the KEA portal, fill in personal/academic details, upload photos/signatures, and pay the fee.
- Download Hall Ticket: Download the admit card from the portal prior to the exam date.

8. Clear Answers to Common Parent & Student Doubts
Can non-Karnataka students apply for KCET government seats?
No. Government quota seats are strictly reserved for students who satisfy Karnataka domicile rules (such as the 7-year study rule). Non-Karnataka students can only seek admission under private or management quotas.
Is the BEO signature required on study certificates?
Yes. All Karnataka study certificates (Class 1 to 10/12) verifying eligibility under Clause A must be signed and stamped by the respective Block Education Officer (BEO) or DDPI.
Is there negative marking in KCET?
No. You should attempt all 180 questions because wrong answers carry no mark deductions.
What are Choice 1, Choice 2, Choice 3, and Choice 4 after seat allotment?
- Choice 1 (Accept & Join): You are satisfied with the allotted seat. You pay the fee, download the admission order, and join the college.
- Choice 2 (Hold & Upgrade): You accept the seat for now, but want to hold it while trying for a better preference in the next round.
- Choice 3 (Reject & Retry): You reject the allotted seat completely and enter the next round to try for better options.
- Choice 4 (Exit): You reject the seat and exit KEA counseling entirely.
