What is CSAB Counselling 2026?

CSAB Counselling is a centralized admission procedure conducted for eligible candidates to allocate seats in colleges and institutions based on examination performance and eligibility criteria. It is also considered a valuable backup option for students exploring alternatives beyond JoSAA counselling for technical and professional courses.

Note: All previously filled choices during JoSAA are null and void; fresh registration and choice-filling are required

Rounds in CSAB Counselling 2026:

The CSAB Counselling 2026 process offers additional admission opportunities for students after the completion of JoSAA counselling, especially for candidates seeking seats in NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs.

Main Counselling Rounds in CSAB:

  • CSAB Special Round 1 – The first special round conducted to fill vacant seats left after JoSAA counselling.
  • CSAB Special Round 2 – The second special round for remaining vacant seats after Round 1.
  • CSAB (Northeastern States and Union Territories) NEUT Counselling – Special counselling process for eligible candidates from NorthEastern states and Union Territories.
  • Number of Rounds: 02
  • CSAB Supernumerary Round – A dedicated round for candidates from specific Union Territories (Andaman & Nicobar, Lakshadweep, Daman & Diu, and Dadra & Nagar Haveli).
  • Number of Rounds: 1 dedicated round.

Unlike JoSAA, CSAB uses the Common Rank List (CRL) for allotment, but your Category tags are used to check seat availability in reserved buckets. For more updates visit Manabadi.co.in

Important Steps in CSAB Counselling 2026:

Even if you participated in JoSAA, you must register separately for CSAB:

  1. Login: Use your JEE Main 2026 application number and password at csab.nic.in.
  2. Verification: Complete the OTP verification via your registered mobile number.
  3. Review Details: Confirm the details fetched from the JEE/JoSAA database.
  4. Fee Payment: Pay the Special Round Enrollment Fee (SREF). This is mandatory to participate in the choice-filling stage.
  5. Choice Filling: You must create a new list of preferences. Your JoSAA choices do not carry over.
  6. Automatic Cancellation: If you have a seat from JoSAA and you get a new seat in CSAB, your JoSAA seat is automatically cancelled. You cannot go back to it.
  7. Participation: You can participate in CSAB even if you didn’t register for JoSAA, withdrew from it, or had your seat cancelled during JoSAA.
  8. Documentation: If you didn’t verify your documents during JoSAA, you will undergo online verification during the CSAB rounds.

1. CSAB Special Rounds (For NITs, IIITs, GFTIs):

To participate, you must pay a Special Round Enrollment Fee (SREF). This fee includes a non-refundable processing charge (typically ₹5,000).

Candidate CategoryEnrollment Fee (Approx.)Processing Fee (Non-refundable)
GEN / GEN-EWS / OBC-NCL₹45,000₹5,000
SC / ST / PwD₹25,000₹5,000
  • Adjustment Rule: If you already paid the Seat Acceptance Fee (SAF) during JoSAA 2026, that amount will be adjusted, and you will only need to pay a small participation fee (usually ₹2,000 – ₹5,000).
  • Institute Admission Fee (IAF-II): After being allotted a seat, you may be required to pay an additional balance fee directly to the institute to confirm your admission.

2. CSAB NEUT (Northeastern States & UTs):

This round has a much lower entry cost as it is specifically for candidates from North Eastern states and Union Territories.

  • Seat Acceptance Fee (SAF): Candidates must pay ₹5,000 upon seat allotment to accept and confirm the seat.
  • Refund Policy: If you withdraw after Round 1 or 2, a processing fee (approx. ₹2,000) is deducted, and ₹3,000 is refunded.

3. CSAB Supernumerary Round:

This round is for candidates from specific UTs (Andaman & Nicobar, Lakshadweep, etc.).

  • Supernumerary SAF (SSAF): Similar to the Special Rounds, the fee is roughly ₹45,000 for General/OBC and ₹25,000 for SC/ST/PwD.
  • Processing Fee: Includes a ₹5,000 non-refundable charge.

The Withdrawal Process:

You can only withdraw during the first special round. Once Round 2 results are declared, the withdrawal option is typically closed.

  • Round 1 Allotment: After receiving a seat in Special Round 1, you will have the following options:
  • Surrender and Participate: You give up your current seat but stay in the process to try for a better one in Round 2.
  • Surrender and Withdraw: You give up your seat and exit the entire counselling process.
  • Round 2 Allotment: For seats allotted for the first time in Round 2, there is usually no option to withdraw with a refund. If you are allotted a seat in Round 2, you are expected to join the institute, or your fee will be forfeited.

Step-by-Step Withdrawal Process:

  1. Login: Access the official CSAB portal using your JEE Main application number and password.
  2. Select Willingness: If you have been allotted a seat in Round 1, select the “Surrender and Withdraw” option.
  3. Bank Details: Verify or provide the bank account details where you want the refund to be processed.
  4. OTP Verification: Complete the withdrawal by entering the OTP sent to your registered mobile number/email.
  5. Confirmation: Download the withdrawal acknowledgment for your records.
  • Physical Reporting: If you do not withdraw and do not report to the college after Round 2, you lose both the seat and your entire enrollment fee (which can be up to ₹45,000).

CSAB (Special Round) Fee Refund Rules:

CSAB rules are even more stringent because it is the final “spot” round.

  • If No Seat is Allotted: If you register for CSAB, pay the enrollment fee, but don’t get any seat in either Round 1 or Round 2, you get a refund after a small deduction (usually ₹5,000 as a processing charge).
  • Surrender & Withdraw (Round 1): If you are allotted a seat in CSAB Round 1 and choose to “Surrender and Withdraw,” you get a refund minus the ₹5,000 processing fee.
  • No Refund in Round 2: If you are allotted a seat in CSAB Round 2, the fee is non-refundable. Even if you don’t join the college, the amount is forfeited because that seat remains vacant and cannot be filled again

CSAB NEUT Refund Rules:

The CSAB NEUT process involves a Seat Acceptance Fee (SAF) of ₹5,000, payable after a seat is allotted in Round 1 or Round 2.

  • Withdrawal during Round 1 or 2: If you choose to withdraw from your allotted seat via the portal within the scheduled timeline, you are eligible for a refund.
  • Refund Amount: Out of the ₹5,000 paid, ₹3,000 will be refunded to your bank account.
  • Deduction: A non-refundable processing fee of ₹2,000 is retained by CSAB.
  • Non-Refundable Scenario: If you do not withdraw within the specified window and fail to report to the allotted institute, the entire fee is forfeited.

2. CSAB Supernumerary Refund Rules:

The Supernumerary Round is for candidates from specific Union Territories. The fees involved are higher, similar to the Special Rounds.

  • Supernumerary SAF (SSAF):
    • GEN/GEN-EWS/OBC-NCL: ₹45,000
    • SC/ST/PwD: ₹25,000
  • Processing Fee: A non-refundable charge of ₹5,000 is included in the SSAF.
  • If No Seat is Allotted: If you register and pay the SSAF but do not receive any seat allotment in the Supernumerary round, the full amount is refunded after deducting the ₹5,000 processing fee.
  • Withdrawal/Non-Reporting: Just like the Special Rounds, if a seat is allotted and you do not join or fail to withdraw within the permitted window, the entire fee is forfeited.
