How Are Seats Allotted in COEP Spot Round 2026?
Seat allotment is not based simply on the order in which candidates arrive.
COEP will conduct counselling according to Inter-Se-Merit among candidates appearing in the university’s merit list.
However, the actual seat available to a candidate depends on the vacancy position at that exact moment. Once a seat is allotted, it is removed from the pool of vacant seats displayed in the counselling hall.
Therefore, a candidate with a better merit position has an advantage, but the preferred branch may no longer be available by the time the candidate’s turn arrives.
What Happens If a Candidate Is Absent When Their Name Is Called?
Candidates must remain present in the counselling hall and wait for their turn.
If a candidate is absent when called, the next candidate in merit order may be called immediately, and the absent candidate can lose the opportunity for that particular seat allotment.
This makes physical presence extremely important.
Can a Higher-Ranked Candidate Who Arrives Late Still Get a Seat?
Yes, subject to the rules.
COEP states that if a candidate with a higher merit rank reports late, the candidate may be considered for a seat that is available at that moment. Such a candidate can receive preference over lower-ranked candidates who are present, provided the seat and category requirements permit it.
COEP Spot Round 2026 Processing Fee
The non-refundable admission processing fee specified in the notification is:
| Candidate Category | Processing Fee |
|---|---|
| Open Category | ₹1,500 |
| All India/OMS Candidates | ₹1,500 |
| Reserved Category | ₹1,200 |
Candidates have to show the payment receipt at the venue.
This processing fee is separate from the applicable university admission fee.
How Should COEP Spot Round Admission Fees Be Paid?
Candidates must bring the applicable COEP University admission fee in the form of a Demand Draft.
The Demand Draft must be drawn in favour of:
“COEP Technological University”
and should be payable at Pune.
Candidates who have already taken admission to COEP through CAP Round I, II, III or IV are required to bring a Demand Draft for the difference amount of fees, wherever applicable.
If the seat is allotted on the basis of JEE Main percentile under the All India quota, the applicable All India/JEE fee structure will apply.
Documents Required for COEP Spot Round 2026
Candidates must bring the required original documents for verification along with one set of photocopies.
Candidates should keep all applicable admission documents ready, including:
- CET/JEE-related documents
- Application/merit details
- Class 10 certificate/marksheet
- Class 12 certificate/marksheet
- Domicile-related documents, wherever applicable
- Category certificate, if applicable
- Caste validity certificate, wherever applicable
- Non-Creamy Layer certificate, wherever applicable
- EWS certificate, if applicable
- Defence-related documents, where applicable
- Valid identity proof
- Admission letter/receipt and fee receipt if already admitted elsewhere
- Other documents prescribed by the Maharashtra CET Cell
The university specifically states that original documents must be produced during verification.
What If a Candidate Has Already Taken Admission in Another College?
A candidate who has already taken admission elsewhere must produce the relevant original admission letter/Receipt-cum-Acknowledgement letter and fee receipt.
COEP also provides for an undertaking where the candidate is required to submit original documents within four working days from the date of reporting, as applicable under the notification.
What Happens After a Seat Is Allotted?
After allotment, the candidate must immediately complete the admission formalities.
The candidate has to:
- Accept the allotted seat.
- Pay the applicable university admission fee.
- Submit the required original documents and photocopies.
- Complete the required admission formalities.
- Submit the anti-ragging form.
- Complete the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) requirement online.
- Obtain the admission confirmation receipt.
COEP states that confirmation of admission is subject to payment of the applicable fees and submission of the required documents and formalities.
Can Candidates Choose Their Preferred Branch in the Spot Round?
Candidates can indicate their preference through the counselling process, but a preferred branch is not guaranteed.
The allotment depends on:
- Candidate’s Inter-Se-Merit
- Category
- Eligibility
- Vacant seats
- Branch availability at the candidate’s turn
Therefore, even a candidate with a good merit position should not assume that a particular branch will definitely be available.
What Does Vacancy Mean in COEP Spot Round?
The vacancy position can change continuously during counselling.
A seat may become available because of:
- Cancellation
- Betterment
- Non-reporting
- Withdrawal
- Other admission-related changes
COEP specifically states that seat allotment is based on the vacancy available at that particular moment.
Therefore, the vacancy shown earlier in the day should not be treated as a guaranteed vacancy when a candidate’s turn arrives.
