NEET PG 2026: Major Changes You Must Know Before Applying

NBEMS has introduced some significant procedural changes this year. Read these carefully – mistakes here cannot be corrected after submission.

1. Test State Selection Instead of Test City
Unlike previous years, candidates will no longer select a preferred test city directly. Instead:

  • You must choose three preferred test states.
  • Your first preference must be your correspondence state, as mentioned in the application form.
  • The remaining two preferences must be neighbouring states.
  • NBEMS will allot your final test city within the allotted state based on availability, administrative needs, and logistics — not on a first-come-first-served basis.
  • Once submitted, your test-state preferences cannot be edited, even during the correction window.

2. No First-Come-First-Served Advantage
NBEMS has clearly stated that applying early does not guarantee a preferred test state, city, or centre. Take your time to fill the form accurately rather than rushing.

3. Aadhaar-Based Authentication
Aadhaar verification has been introduced for candidate authentication. Make sure your Aadhaar details are accurate and that your Aadhaar is unlocked before you report to the exam centre on exam day.

4. Stricter Photograph and Document Guidelines

  • Photograph must be recent, taken within the last 3 months.
  • Background must be plain and clear, with the face fully visible.
  • Images must not be edited, filtered, or digitally altered.
  • Blurred, outdated, or non-compliant photographs can lead to application rejection.

5. Correspondence Address Cannot Be Changed
Your correspondence address, once submitted, is locked and cannot be edited later — so verify it carefully before hitting submit.

Documents Accepted as Correspondence Address Proof

You can submit any one of the following as valid address proof:

  • Aadhaar Card
  • Voter ID
  • Passport
  • Driving Licence
  • Ration Card
  • Domicile/Residence Certificate
  • NMC/State Medical Council Registration Certificate
  • MBBS Degree/Provisional Degree Certificate
  • Internship Completion Certificate
  • Latest utility bill (not older than 3 months)
  • Bank passbook or bank statement
  • Registered rent/lease agreement
  • Hostel/PG allotment letter
  • Employer/service certificate
  • Notarised residence affidavit

NEET PG 2026: Seats and Courses on Offer

NEET PG 2026 is the gateway to more than 40,000 postgraduate medical seats across India, spread across government medical colleges, deemed universities, AIIMS-pattern institutions, and DNB-affiliated hospitals. This broadly includes:

What Happens After Registration – Result and Counselling

  • The NEET PG 2026 result is expected around four weeks after the exam, likely by late September 2026.
  • Once the result is out, the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) will conduct All India Quota (AIQ) counselling for 50% of PG seats at mcc.nic.in, expected to begin in October 2026.
  • The remaining 50% state quota seats will be filled through respective State Counselling Authorities, following their own separate schedules.
  • Multiple counselling rounds – Round 1, Round 2, Mop-Up/Round 3, and a Stray Vacancy round – are typically conducted depending on seat availability.
