Uttarakhand Wins Best State Award for Aviation Promotion

Uttarakhand has been conferred the national award for ‘Best State for Promotion of Aviation and Ecosystem’ at WINGS INDIA 2026, recognising its strategic use of aviation to improve connectivity, tourism, and public services in challenging mountainous terrain. The honour highlights the state’s growing role in strengthening India’s regional aviation landscape.

National Recognition at WINGS INDIA 2026

The three-day aviation event, WINGS INDIA 2026, began on January 29 and will conclude on January 31 at Begumpet Airport in Hyderabad. The award was presented by the Union Civil Aviation Minister to Uttarakhand’s Additional Secretary Ashish Chauhan in the presence of Civil Aviation Secretary Sachin Kurve and other senior officials. The event is considered India’s premier platform for the civil aviation sector.

Role of Aviation in Char Dham Yatra Management

The award citation noted Uttarakhand’s effective deployment of aviation infrastructure to ensure a safe, smooth, and well-managed Char Dham Yatra. The state has significantly strengthened helicopter services to Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri. Development of heliports and helipads, improved passenger safety protocols, and strong disaster management preparedness have been central to this effort. Helicopter services have been particularly beneficial for senior citizens, differently-abled pilgrims, and devotees with time constraints.

Expanding Connectivity to Remote and Border Areas

Uttarakhand’s initiatives to connect remote and border regions through air networks were also acknowledged. Upgradation of airstrips under the UDAN scheme, promotion of heli-tourism, and the use of aerial assets for emergency medical and disaster response have strengthened the overall aviation ecosystem in the state.
