WHAT IS SCIENCE?

New words:

1. Fossil
2. Astrophysicist
3. Climatologist
4. Hypothesis
5. Ecosystem
6. Geneticists
7. Investigation

1. What is science?

science is an organised study of knowledge which is based on experimentation
2. Science is a tool for searching fruits of nature.

3. Science is a way exploring the world

2. What is hypothesis?

making a statement about an expected outcome is called hypothesis.
2. Variables are factors that can affect the outcome of an investigation.

3. What is generalisation?Give an example.

based on the experiment and its results explaining the solution for a problem is called generalisation

Example: the bulb is not glowing in the room

4. What is the contribution of science to mankind?

By using various scientific devices many important components are developed these range from hybrid seeds for green revolution mobile phones for communication space shuttles too many medicines for breathing diseases like malaria smallpox cancer accident science has contributed a lot to mankind.

5. What do you mean by the term ‘science’?Why do we need it?

The word science comes from Latin word scientific means knowledge science means a system of acquiring knowledge
1. Understand nature and solve problems.
2. Make new discoveries.
3. Explain natural phenomena.
4. Give great concepts and prove against concepts that were accepted earlier.

6. What are the steps involved in scientific method?Explain with examples.

The steps involved in scientific method are as follows

Step 1: observe and ask questions:

We use our senses to make observations by the observations we may arise some questions.
Example:which soil works best for planting bean seed?

Step 2: form a hypothesis:

A Hypothesis is a possible answer that can be tested.
Example: my hypothesis is bean seeds sprouts best in potting soil.

Step 3 plan and experiment

1. Here we think how to conduct an experiment to prove our hypothesis.
2. Here we also consider the variables are factors that can affect the outcome.
Example: I will put some identical seeds in three different kinds of soil each flower pot will get the same amount of water and sunlight so I will control the variables.

Step 4: Conduct the experiment

1. Here we provide the equipment and conduct experiment.
2. We record everything that happens and organise the data:
Example: a) I will measure each plant after 3 days.
b) I will record the results in a table to show the height of each plant after 21 days.

Step 5:Draw conclusions and communicate results

1. Here analyse the data and come to a conclusion.
2. Decide whether our hypothesis was correct or not.
Example:My hypothesis is not correct. The seeds sprouted equally well in potting soil and sandy soil they sprouted well in clay soil but with less growth.
