Osmania University Ph.D. Viva-Voce Circular
Osmania University has released an important notification regarding the Ph.D. Viva-Voce examination for research scholars across various departments. The circular provides detailed guidelines for the conduct of the final oral defense, which is a mandatory requirement for the award of the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree.
According to the official notice, eligible research scholars who have successfully submitted their Ph.D. thesis and received favorable evaluation reports from external examiners are hereby informed to appear for the Viva-Voce examination as per the scheduled dates announced by their respective departments. The Viva-Voce will be conducted in offline/online mode depending on the department’s academic arrangements and availability of the external examiner.
The circular emphasizes that candidates must ensure all pre-requirements are completed before appearing for the defense. This includes submission of required copies of the thesis, plagiarism report clearance, and approval from the research supervisor and Head of the Department. Scholars are also advised to carry their research synopsis, identity proof, and presentation materials for the session.
The university has directed all department heads to constitute Viva-Voce committees consisting of the internal guide, external examiner, and subject experts. The evaluation process will focus on the originality of the research work, depth of subject knowledge, methodology adopted, and overall contribution to the academic field.
Further, scholars are instructed to adhere strictly to the schedule notified by the departments. Any request for rescheduling will be considered only under exceptional circumstances with proper justification and prior approval from the university authorities.
Osmania University has also requested departments to maintain transparency and academic standards during the entire evaluation process. The final result of the Ph.D. Viva-Voce will be communicated to the Controller of Examinations after completion of the proceedings.
This circular marks an important step for research scholars nearing the completion of their doctoral journey, ensuring a structured and standardized evaluation process across all disciplines.
