Osmania University Ph.D. Viva-Voce Circular
The Osmania University has released an important notification regarding the Ph.D. Viva-Voce examination process, bringing clarity for research scholars who are nearing the completion of their doctoral studies. The circular outlines detailed guidelines, procedures, and eligibility criteria for conducting the final Viva-Voce, which is a crucial step in the award of the Ph.D. degree.
As per the circular, candidates who have successfully submitted their Ph.D. thesis and received positive evaluation reports from external examiners are eligible to appear for the Viva-Voce examination. The university has emphasized that the Viva-Voce should be conducted in a transparent and academic environment, ensuring that the scholar demonstrates a clear understanding of their research work, methodology, and findings.
The Viva-Voce will be organized by the concerned department under the supervision of the Chairperson of the Board of Examiners. It will include the presence of at least one external examiner, along with internal faculty members. In some cases, the university may also allow online participation of external examiners to facilitate smooth conduct, especially when physical presence is not possible.
Candidates are required to present a comprehensive overview of their research work, followed by a question-and-answer session. The panel will assess the originality of the research, the candidate’s depth of knowledge, and the contribution of the study to the respective field. Scholars are advised to prepare thoroughly and ensure that all necessary documents, including thesis copies and summary reports, are ready before the scheduled Viva-Voce date.
The university has also instructed departments to notify the Viva-Voce schedule well in advance and maintain proper records of the proceedings. Upon successful completion of the Viva-Voce, candidates will be recommended for the award of the Ph.D. degree.
