JNTUA M.Tech R25 Highway Engineering – Course Structure & Syllabus

The JNTUA M.Tech R25 Highway Engineering course is a specialized postgraduate program designed for students who wish to build advanced knowledge in transportation systems, pavement engineering, traffic planning, and highway construction technologies. The R25 regulation has been introduced for students admitted from the academic year 2025–26 onwards. The curriculum focuses on modern highway design standards, research-oriented learning, practical applications, and industry requirements.

The course structure is divided into four semesters over two academic years. In the first year, students study core subjects related to highway and transportation engineering along with professional electives and laboratory sessions. Important subjects generally include Pavement Design, Traffic Engineering, Transportation Planning, Highway Materials, Geometric Design of Highways, and Advanced Foundation Engineering. Students also learn Research Methodology & Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), which helps in preparing research papers and technical projects.

Laboratory sessions and software-based analysis are important components of the syllabus. Students work on pavement analysis tools, transportation simulation software, and highway material testing methods. Mini projects and seminars are introduced during the second semester to improve technical presentation and analytical skills.

In the second year, students can select advanced professional electives such as Traffic Safety Engineering, Airport Planning & Design, Urban Transportation Systems, GIS Applications in Transportation, and Pavement Management Systems. The final year mainly focuses on dissertation work, research projects, and thesis submission. This helps students gain practical exposure and industry-oriented research experience.

The R25 syllabus also emphasizes innovation, sustainable transportation systems, smart road technologies, and modern construction practices. After completing the course, graduates can pursue careers in highway design consultancy firms, transportation departments, infrastructure companies, research organizations, and government engineering services.
