The Max Planck/Harvard University collaboration on the Science of the Human Past in the Ancient Mediterranean is going to be offering 3 five-year full fellowships for international students. These fellowships are awarded for graduate studies leading to a PhD at Harvard University in the Departments of Anthropology (Archaeology Program), History, Human Evolutionary Biology, and Organismic and Evolutionary Biology. The new program is a long-term cross-disciplinary collaboration involving these various departments at MPI and Harvards FAS and HMS, as well as other interested scholars and scientists at Harvard University. Harvard University is a private, Ivy League research university in Cambridge, Massachusetts, established 1636, whose history, influence and wealth have made it one of the worlds most prestigious universities. Applicants who are non-native English speakers and who received their undergraduate degree from an academic institution where English is not the primary language of instruction must take the Internet based test (iBT) of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), administered by the Educational Testing Service (ETS).

Fellowships are available for pursuing graduate studies leading to a PhD in Harvard Universitys Faculty of Arts and Sciences. Study Subject: Fellowships are awarded in Biological Archaeology / Archaeometry and Archaeogenetics. These three new PhD fellowships are open for recent Bachelor or Masters degree holders with an excellent record and research experience in two or more of the fields. The new program ordinarily includes two years of coursework at Harvard and fulfillment of the standard requirements for the PhD in the relevant Departments of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences of Harvard University, where candidates will acquire expertise in the topics and methods covered by the Max Planck Harvard project. After this period, doctoral students will ordinarily conduct substantial research for their PhD at the Max Planck Institute for the Science of Human History in Jena, Germany. Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities can apply for PhD fellowships.

College Admission Requirement Entrance Requirement: GSAS welcomes applications for admission from individuals holding a BA, BS, or equivalent degree (for prospective international students, a three- or four-year undergraduate degree from an institution of recognized standing) and actively seeks applicants from groups historically underrepresented in graduate schools. All degree candidates are admitted for full-time study beginning in the fall term. Test Requirement: GSAS requires that applicants present scores of the General Test of the Graduate Record Examinations (GRE). English Language Requirement: Adequate command of spoken and written English is essential to success in graduate study at Harvard. Applicants who are non-native English speakers and who received their undergraduate degree from an academic institution where English is not the primary language of instruction must take the Internet based test (iBT) of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), administered by the Educational Testing Service (ETS). A minimum score of 80 is required, but some programs may require a higher score. Applicants who took the TOEFL more than two years ago (i.e. before September 1, 2015, for fall 2017 admission) must retake the test. No test other than the iBT TOEFL will be accepted as proof of English proficiency; a masters degree is not accepted as proof of English proficiency. Applicants must request that ETS send an official
