National Entrance Screening Test, commonly known as NEST, stands as a gateway for aspiring students seeking admission into premier institutes in India for their undergraduate studies in the field of basic sciences. This examination is jointly conducted by the National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER), Bhubaneswar, and the University of Mumbai - Department of Atomic Energy Centre for Excellence in Basic Sciences (UM-DAE CEBS), Mumbai. NEST is designed to identify and nurture young talent in the domains of Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics.

NEST 2024 Eligibility Criteria
Candidates must check the eligibility criteria of NEST 2024 below:
- Candidates must have passed the class XII, this Year last year
- candidates must secure at least 60% marks
- 55% for SC and ST
- Those appearing for the qualifying examination in the same year as the NEST exam are also eligible to apply.

- Section-wise cut–off marks:
- GENERAL: "20% of the average of the best 100 scores in that section"
- OBC : would be 90% of the respective SMAS for general category students
- SC/ST/DIVYANGAN: would be 50% of the respective SMAS for general category students
- OVERALL CUT OF MARKS:
- 95 percentile for general category candidates
- 90 percentile for general category candidates
- 75 percentile for general category candidates

The NEST syllabus typically covers the following subjects:
- Physics: Mechanics, Sound and Mechanical Waves, Thermal Physics, Electricity and Magnetism, Optics, Modern Physics.
- Chemistry: Physical Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry.
- Mathematics: Algebra, Trigonometry, Analytical Geometry, Differential Calculus, Integral Calculus, Vectors and Three-Dimensional Geometry.
- Biology: Cell Biology, Genetics and Evolution, Ecology, Humans and Environment, Biotechnology.
- General Section: General Knowledge, Current Affairs, English language.

The merit list:
Best three qualifying scores out of four sections, and the section with the worst score is omitted. 'total' marks for NEST becomes 150
Age limit:
The age limit is relaxed by 5 years for SC / ST / Divyangjan candidates.

Other Backward Classes belonging to the Non–Creamy Layer (OBC–NCL): 27%
Scheduled Caste (SC) / Scheduled Tribe (ST): 15% and 7.5%
Divyangjan: 5% of the number of seats in every category, i.e., General, OBC–NCL, SC, and
ST, are reserved for persons with disabilities (Divyangjan).
Exam Centers: 120, Candidates must choose 5 (five) centres

NEST 2024 Exam Pattern:
The question paper will consist of 4 (four) sections of objective (MCQ) type.
- MARKS PATTERN:
- Biology: 12 questions (single answer) + 5 questions (Multiple Correct Answer) = 50 Marks
- Chemistry: 12 questions (single answer) + 5 questions (Multiple Correct Answer) = 50 Marks
- Mathematics: 12 questions (single answer) + 5 questions (Multiple Correct Answer) = 50 Marks
- Physics: 12 questions (single answer) + 5 questions (Multiple Correct Answer) = 50 Marks
