Important Update for Andhra Pradesh Intermediate exam schedule 2026 Students
Interestingly, Andhra Pradesh has also planned to start its Intermediate exams from February 23, so Telangana intends to align its schedule similarly.
In the past, AP Intermediate exams used to be held in February, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, they were postponed to March for the last few years.
This delay has caused significant stress to students preparing for entrance exams like JEE Main, EAMCET, and NEET, leaving them with only a short gap between board exams and entrance tests.
For instance, in 2024, the Inter exams began on March 5, while the JEE Main final session started on April 2 — giving students just 12 days to prepare.
To avoid such pressure, the board plans to start the exams a week earlier this time.
Proposal to Increase Exam Fees
At the same time, the board has submitted another proposal to the government seeking a hike in examination fees.
Currently:
- Â Courses without practicals: Rs.520
- Â Courses with practicals (like MPC, BiPC): Rs.750
The board argues that Telangana’s fees are lower than those of other boards such as Andhra Pradesh and CBSE, and hence need revision.
If approved:
- Without practicals →Rs.600
-  With practicals → Rs.875
This year, approximately 9 lakh students (combined for 1st and 2nd year) are expected to appear for the Intermediate exams across Andhra Pradesh.
Insights & Commentary
1. Positive Step for Students Preparing for Competitive Exams
Advancing the schedule gives valuable extra preparation time for students attempting JEE, NEET, and EAMCET. This change could improve Telangana students’ performance in national-level exams and reduce academic burnout.
2. Policy Synchronization with Andhra Pradesh
Aligning Telangana’s schedule with Andhra Pradesh’s helps avoid calendar conflicts and ensures uniformity across both states — especially useful for students and coaching institutions that operate in both regions.
3. Impact on Coaching Centers
Earlier exams may push junior colleges and coaching centers to adjust their academic calendars. Intensive coaching sessions (JEE/NEET crash courses) may now begin earlier in March, improving pacing and reducing last-minute stress.
4. Fee Hike Justification
While the fee hike may appear small, it reflects the board’s attempt to bring parity with other education boards and manage rising administrative costs. However, it could burden economically weaker students unless fee waivers or scholarship exemptions are announced.
