Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is all set to conduct the board exams for students of classes 10 and 12 early next year. While the practical exams are scheduled to start from January 1, 2024 for both the classes, the theory examination for both classes will start from February 15, 2024.

Exam marking schedule: The CBSE released the exam marking schedule for both the theory and practical portions of the board exams for classes 10 and 12. According to the plan, each subject may receive up to 100 marks, which are divided among the components of theoretical, practical, project, and internal assessment. For classes 10 and 12, the marking scheme is provided for 83 courses and 121 topics, respectively.

For class 10 disciplines like music, painting, computers, retail, information technology, security, and introduction to financial markets, among others, the practical test grades are 50. For courses like English, Hindi, math, science, and social science, the internal assessment grade is 20. Subjects such as Geography, Psychology, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology, and Physical Education have practical marks of 30 in class 12. Subjects including commercial art, dance, home science, painting, graphics, and sculpture have a practical mark of 50. The CBSE website has the entire list of marking schemes for every topic.

No divisional or distinguished award given to students: Not only did the CBSE previously state that it would not be releasing a list of merit for the class 10 and 12 board exam results, but this year the board also made the decision to not give any division or distinction to any of the students.  Furthermore, the admitting college will be the only one to determine which five subjects are the best for determining the students` grades.

Two board exams: In an effort to assist students in raising their test results, the Center intends to conduct two board exams year. The choice will assist the pupils in keeping their highest exam scores.  In addition to giving students two opportunities a year, this move is part of a larger initiative to improve education in general.
