Online IBPS Exam

The IBPS has decided to conduct the CWE for the selection of candidates for clerical posts in 20 nationalized banks through the online mode from this year onwards. This news has proved to be a big shock to the clerical aspirants who hail from the lower middle class or the rural background families of the country. The online exam pattern is applicable to all the 20 nationalized banking institutions in the country which follow the platform of IBPS. The IBPS (Institute of Banking Personnel Selection) has issued notifications for the clerical grade exams that it will be conducting. This national level examination conducted by the institute has brought in many changes from this time.

Except for the State Bank of India (SBI), the other nationalized banks had mutually decided to implement a common examination platform for the selection of suitable candidates for clerk and PO positions. This decision was implemented from last year. The responsibility of conducting these examinations was rested upon the IBPS. With only its second clerk CWE to be conducted, IBPS has implemented certain major changes in the whole selection process, one of them being the introduction of online CWE instead of pen and paper exam.

Only CAT has been conducting purely online based examinations. Even IIT-JEE conducts pen and paper exam as an optional mode of exam for those who find it inconvenient to appear for online tests.

The inconvenience that the candidates face in appearing for the online Common Written Exam can be justified with the fact that despite the huge number of applicants, IIT-JEE provides an option of paper and pen exam to the candidates. The problem is majorly prevalent among the candidates who belong to normal and rural families, who cannot arrange for technology based arrangements in order to appear for their exams. The online examination has been scheduled to take place in various dates in December. The examination would consist of 5 sections of 40 marks each. The time limit for the whole CWE would be 2 hours (120 minutes). Every correct answer would be carrying 1 mark and every wrong answer would result in deduction of 0.25 marks.

Padma Pandey from Pioneer Tutorials says that the introduction of online pattern of examination for the banking recruitments is a major change in the entire process. This process could possibly prove to be negative for the candidates who belong to a rural environment of life. Candidates who are from technical backgrounds, such as – BCA, BBA, etc. would find this process to their advantage as they are well versed with this kind of a process.

This time, the candidates will not be issued a score card for the CWE that they would be giving. Subsequently, the interview process will also be conducted by the IBPS. The national level common interview process will be inviting candidates who have cleared the CWE conducted by the IBPS. The final merit list would be prepared on the basis of the scores of candidates in the CWE and the Interview process. The banks would be allotted on the basis of the choice of the candidates and their merit.

This implies that the candidates will be relieved from the tension of applying separately for different banks, but at the same time, they will not be getting a chance to change their choice after the final result announcements.

The candidates will have to achieve the minimum cut off marks for each section separately in order to appear in the merit.
