Gujarat police was honoured with the Presidents Colours award on 15 December:
Gujarat police was honoured with the President`s Colours award on 15 December 2019. Gujarat became the seventh state police force in India to be bestowed with the honour of the President’s Colours. It was presented by the Vice President, Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu. He paid homage martyrs of Gujarat Police.
President`s Colours is also called NISHAAN. Now, the emblem will be worn by all the police officers of Gujarat on the left-hand sleeve of their uniform. The proposal for President`s Colours was initiated by the office of the Director-General (DG) and Inspector General of Police (IGP), the head of the Gujarat Police. It was forwarded to the Ministry of Home Affairs, on 21 February 2019, by the home department of the Gujarat government. On 7 March 2019, the awarding of the President`s Colours to Gujarat Police was communicated.
President`s Colours:
The President`s Colour is the highest honour bestowed upon a police force in India. The honour recognizes the invaluable contribution of the police force to society. Earlier, it was awarded to states of Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir, Tripura and Assam.
Indian troops received the United Nations Medal:
Around 850 Indian troops who serve in South Sudan have received the United Nations Medal. The award recognized the strong contribution of the Indian peacekeepers to build peace in conflict-affected South Sudan and to go above and beyond their duties to support local communities.
The award recognized the dedication and sacrifice offered to protect civilians in South Sudan.
Indian peacekeepers:
♦ The award recognized their efforts to support peace talks between Government and Opposition forces in the Upper Nile region.
♦ They also established the first-ever United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) base on the west bank of the Nile at Kodok.
♦ In addition to their duties, the peacekeepers have supported local communities by building veterinary hospitals at Kodok and Malakal, trained cattle-keepers to better care for their livestock.
♦ They have provided life-saving medical assistance to people in need.
♦ They also worked to facilitate the safe delivery of humanitarian assistance, such as clean water, shelter, food, and healthcare, to the millions of displaced people.
♦ It protects, monitors, investigates, and reports on human rights violations and abuses with a strong focus on the most vulnerable, such as women and children and those who are subjected to sexual and gender-based violence.
R. Nagaswamy was honoured at the Silver Jubilee International Conference of Art:
Renowned archaeologist R. Nagaswamy was honoured at the Silver Jubilee International Conference of Art held in Dhaka by Bangladesh Culture Minister K.M. Khalid. He was honoured for the contribution of Nagaswamy to art, archaeology, history, and culture.
The Silver Jubilee volume of the Journal of Bengal Art was dedicated to Mr. Nagaswamy. The art carries articles by international scholars.
Ramachandran Nagaswamy:
R. Nagaswamy is an Indian historian, epigraphist and archaeologist. He served as the founder-Director of the Tamil Nadu Archaeology Department. He is famous for his work on temple inscriptions and the art history of Tamil Nadu. In 2018, he was awarded Padma Bhushan, India`s third-highest civilian award.
