Third edition of Khelo India Youth Games logo was launched:

Guwahati is to host the third edition of the Khelo India Youth Games. It is expected to be held from 10 January 2020. The announcement was made by Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports Kiren Rijiju at the launched ceremony. The third edition of Khelo India Youth Games 2020 Logo was launched by the Assam Chief Minister Sarbanada Sonowal.

Guwahati:

The youth of the Assam state are working hard in the field of sports to establish themselves as a powerful global contender. Recently, Guwahati has emerged as one of the top sporting cities in India.

Organized by:

The 2020 Games is conducted in partnership with the School Games Federation of India (SGFI), Indian Olympic Association (IOA), and Assam STate government.

What`s new?

In the third edition, Cycling and Lawn Bowling events were added. 1,000 of the best performing participants will ve awarded an annual scholarship of Rs.5,00,000 for 8 years in order to prepare them for international sporting events.

Participants:

More the 12,000 players are expected to participate in the 2020 Khelo India Youth Games. 

Note: Khelo India is a national level multidisciplinary grassroots game in India. It is held for two categories, mainly U-17 years school students and U-21 college students.

The 13th South Asian Games began in Kathmandu:

The 13th South Asian Games (SAG) began at the newly constructed Dasharath Stadium in Kathmandu, Nepal on 1 December 2019. The multi-sport event was inaugurated by the President of Nepal Bidya Devi Bhandari. The games will be held from 1-10 December in three cities namely, Pokhara, Kathmandu, and Janakpur. 

Participants:

In 2019 SAG, athletes from Nepal, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Bhutan, Maldives, and Sri Lanka are participating in 26 different sports. More than 2,000 athletes will compete for 1119 medals.

South Asian Games (SAG):

SAG was held for the first time in September 1984 in Kathmandu, Nepal. The games are held once every 2 years. It is held among the Asian athletes. South Asia Olympic Council (SAOC) is the governing body of SAG. The 8 members of SAG are India, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Afghanistan, the Maldives, Nepal, and Sri Lanka.

New Zealand cricket team was awarded 2019 MCC CMJ Spirit of Cricket Award:

New Zealand cricket team was awarded with the Marylebone Cricket Club`s (MCC) Christopher Martin-Jenkins (CMJ) Spirit of Cricket Award for 2019. The New Zealand team defeated the World Cup final against England to win the cup. The team displayed a level of sportsmanship in the event.

CMJ Spirit of Cricket award:

 

The CMJ Spirit of Cricket award was instituted by Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) and the BBC in 2013. It was instituted in memory of former MCC President and BBC Test Match Special commentator Christopher Martin-Jenkins. CMJ was passionate about promoting the spirit of the game.
