G20 Summit 2019: PM Modi meets Shinzo Abe, will hold a trilateral meeting:
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe ahead of the two-day G20 Summit that will take place in Osaka on June 28.
- He will be meeting several world leaders, including US President Donald Trump.
- He will also hold a trilateral meeting on the sidelines of the summit with Russian and Chinese Presidents Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping, respectively.
- PM Modi’s in his departure statement said that issues such as women empowerment, artificial intelligence and common efforts to address challenges like terrorism will be high on his agenda.
- He said the two-day Osaka summit will also be an important stepping stone for India towards hosting the G20 summit in 2022.
- PM Narendra Modi and Japanese PM Shinzo Abe hold talks in Osaka. This is the first such meeting between these leaders since the start of Japan`s Reiwa era.
- Looking forward to the visit of Japanese PM Shinzo Abe to India later this year for the annual summit, PM Modi says.
- Many aspects of India-Japan relations were discussed.
G20 Summit Participants:
The participants are leaders from 19 countries and the Europian Union (EU). The 19 countries are Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Republic of Korea, Republic of South Africa, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, United Kingdom, United States of America. In addition, leaders of invited guest countries and representatives of invited guest international organizations participate in the summit along with leaders from the G20 members.
Next British PM will be announced on 23 July:
The British government has announced that the next Prime Minister and the leader of Britain’s ruling Conservatives will be announced on July 23.
Former Foreign Minister Boris Johnson and Britain’s current top diplomat, Jeremy Hunt were chosen from a field of 10 by the Conservative party’s 313 MPs, and are now seeking to woo an estimated 1,60,000 party members who will make the final choice.
Postal ballots will be sent out between July 6 and 8. The deadline for returning them has been set at 5p.m. on July 22.
The announcement of the next leader of the Conservative party is expected to be made on 23 July.
Russia extends Western food embargo to end of 2020:

- Russian President Vladimir Putin extended Moscow`s ban on food products from the West to the end of 2020.
- To continue against sanctions over Ukraine.The agreement was signed by Putin.
- The official government website registered ban on dairy, meat and foods items will now stretch to December 31, 2020.
- In August 2014 most of the most food imports from the European Union.
- The United States and other countries imposed sanctions over its annexation of Crimea and support of east Ukraine`s separatists.
- The union leaders agreed to extend their punishing economic sanctions against Russia due to the conflict in Ukraine for a further six months.
- Moscow`s own embargo affected the Russian economy pushing up food prices but also giving a boost for some domestic producers.

- The retaliatory move is “to extend from January 1 to December 31, 2020 the operation of certain special economic measures stipulated by the presidential decree of August 6, 2014,” the document read.
- Some five years ago, Moscow banned imports of certain agricultural products, raw materials and foodstuffs from Western countries that slapped Russia with sanctions. They include the US, the EU, Canada, Australia, Norway, Iceland, Albania, Montenegro, Liechtenstein, and Ukraine.
