WCA and ECF are extremely happy with this declaration. This UN declaration is an acknowledgement of the contribution of cycling to the Sustainable Development Goals".
Leszek Sibilski led a campaign to promote a UN Resolution for World Bicycle Day, eventually gaining the support of Turkmenistan and 56 other countries.[3] The logo for World Bicycle Day was designed by Isaac Feld and the accompanying animation was done by Professor John E. 4. French Swimmer Begins Record Pacific Crossing Attempt.

Long distance swimmer Ben Lecomte set off from Choshi, Chiba Prefecture, on Tuesday in his bid to become the first person to swim across the Pacific Ocean.
Lecomte’s two children Max and Anna swam out with him for a few hundred meters before leaving the 50-year-old Frenchman to continue the task of crossing the world’s largest ocean.
Lecomte, who swam across the Atlantic Ocean in 1998, will hope to next see his children in San Francisco after a journey of 9,100 km, which is expected to take more than six months. Lecomte said last week that his plan was to swim for eight hours and consume over 8,000 calories each day.
More than 27 different scientific organizations, some medical and some oceanographic, will be benefiting from the data gathered during the expedition by Lecomte’s support team. Much of the research will focus on plastic pollution in the Pacific Ocean, specifically the build-up of so-called plastic smog, containing billions of pieces of microplastic.
Lecomte, whose departure took place on World Environment Day, has said he is concerned about the effect of pervasive plastic pollution on marine ecosystems. Lecomte’s progress can be followed through a live tracker on the Seeker.com website.
5. World Environment Day 2018 Celebrated In New Delhi.

World Environment Day is the United Nations` (UN) most important day for encouraging worldwide awareness and action for the protection of our environment. Since it began in 1974, it has grown to become a global platform for public outreach that is widely celebrated in over 100 countries. World Environment Day is the "people`s day" for doing something to take care of the Earth.
Each World Environment Day is organised around a theme that focuses attention on a particularly pressing environmental concern. The theme for the World Environment Day 2018, "Beat Plastic Pollution".
The theme invites everyone to consider how they can make changes in their everyday lives to reduce the heavy burden of plastic pollution on our natural places, our wildlife - and their own health. While plastic has many valuable uses, we have become over-reliant on single-use or disposable plastic - with severe environmental consequences.
Every World Environment Day has a different global host country, where the official celebrations take place. This year it is India. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address an event marking the World Environment Day today. He will also visit the exhibition set up on the occasion at the Rajpath lawns.
