 1. Virat Kohli Creates Record by becoming Fastest Batsman to Score 8000 runs in ODIs.

India’s Skipper Virat Kohli has created a record by becoming the quickest batsman to score 8000 runs in one-day international cricket beating South Africa’s AB de Villier’s record by seven fewer innings. Virat Kohli has managed to cross the 8000 run mark in his 175th innings during India’s match against Bangladesh in ICC Champion’s Trophy semi-final in Birmingham.

Earlier record holder was South African captain AB de Villiers who crossed the 8000 run mark in 182 innings.

Earlier this year, South Africa’s Hashim Amla had broken Virat Kohli’s previous record of being the fastest batsman to score 7000 runs in ODIs. While Virat Kohli scored 7000 runs in 166 innings, Hashim Amla took only150 innings to get there. Hashim Amla is also the fastest batsman to score 2000, 3000, 4000, 5000 and 6000 runs.

Top 5 fastest 8000 run scorers in ODIs: 

Virat Kohli (175 innings), AB de Villiers (182 innings), Sourav Ganguly (200 innings), Sachin Tendulkar (210 innings), Brian Lara (211 innings).

2.Neeru Chadha becomes First Indian Women to be elected to International Tribunal for the Law of the Seas.

Law expert Neeru Chadha has been elected to the International Tribunal for the Law of the Seas (ITLOS). With this election, she has become the first Indian women to win a crucial election to a top UN judicial body that deals with disputes related to the law of the sea. Neeru has become the first Indian woman to be appointed as a judge at the ITLOS.

ITLOS comprises of 21 independent members who are elected based upon their reputation for being a person with integrity. The person should also have necessary competence in the field of the law of the sea Neeru has also earned a distinction of becoming the second Indian woman to occupy a top position at the United Nations after Lakshmi Pandit who served as the President of the United Nations General Assembly.

 3. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurates Kochi Metro.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday flagged off the Kochi Metro, Kerala’s first Metro rail, and took an inaugural ride onboard the train with dignitaries, including Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and ‘Metro Man’ E Sreedharan.

Governor P Sathasivam, Union Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu, Urban Development Secretary Rajiv Gouba, Kerala Chief Secretary Nalini Netto and Kerala Metro chief Elias George were also present.

 4. Sushma Swaraj inaugurates KIP for young overseas Indians.

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj inaugurated Know India Programme, KIP, for young overseas Indians at a function in New Delhi yesterday. Mrs Swaraj said, the programme is aimed at promoting awareness on different facets of life in India and the progress made by the country in various fields such as economic and education.

The Know India Programme is a three-week orientation programme for the Indian diaspora. It provides a unique forum for students and young professionals of Indian origin to visit India, share their views, expectations and experiences and develop closer bonds with the contemporary India.

On the occasion, the External Affairs Minister announced opening of new 149 post office passport seva kendras in the country soon. Mrs Swaraj said this will take the total number of such Kendras to 251. She also said that government is making all out efforts that a person should not travel more than 50 kilometres to get his/her passport.
