1) Petra Kvitova wins 2016 WTA Elite Singles Trophy

  • Czech Republic’s Petra Kvitova on 6 November 2016 won the 2016 WTA Elite Singles Trophy.
  • She defeated Ukrainian Elina Svitolina 6-4, 6-2 to grab the title at Zhuhai, China.
  • Venus Williams was the defending champion for the title. However, she chose not to participate despite qualifying for the edition.
2) Andy Murray becomes world number one

  • British tennis player Andy Murray, 29, became the world`s number one men`s tennis player. He has achieved this position from Novak Djokovic.
  • It took him 7 years to become number one from number two.
  • He was 22-year-old when he first became number two. Andy Murray is the oldest British player to have topped the world ranking.

3) India to host second Twenty20 Blind World Cup

  • India is set to host the second Twenty20 Blind World Cup next year, the Cricket Association for the Blind in India (CABI) announced on November 9 in Bangalore.
  • They also signed Rahul Dravid as the brand ambassador for the tournament that will begin on January 31 in New Delhi.
  • India won the inaugural edition of the tournament in 2012 in Bangalore.
4) Mumbai’s Western Railways beat Haryana 4-2 to win Surjit trophy

  • Mumbai`s Western Railways women`s team on 10 November 2016 won the 33rd Indian Oil Servo Surjit Hockey Tournament.
  • The team defeated Haryana XI 4-2 in the title clash played at the Olympian Surjit Hockey Stadium in Jalandhar.

5) Former South Africa spinner Robin Peterson announces retirement from cricket

  • Former South Africa and County Championship spin bowler Robin Peterson has announced his retirement from cricket with immediate effect.
  • He started his international career in Champions Trophy 2002.
  • Peterson, 37, played 15 Tests, 79 one-day internationals and 21 Twenty20s over 14 years playing for his nation.
6) Sydney to host Invictus Games in 2018: Britain`s Prince Harry

  • Australia will host the 2018 Invictus Games for wounded military personnel, Britain`s Prince Harry announced. 
  • More than 500 serving and former personnel from 17 nations will compete in the multi-sports competition in Sydney.
  • The games have been held in London and Orlando, and are due to be held in Toronto next year.
7)Aditi Ashok lifts Indian Open title
