1) Uttarakhand Ratna for ND Tiwari

  • Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat conferred the Uttarakhand Ratna award on his arch rival and former chief minister Narayan Dutt Tiwari on the occasion of the state`s 17th foundation day. 
  • Tiwari was elected UP Chief Minister thrice and once for Uttarakhand.
  • It’s the first time that state government has decided to confer Uttarakhand Ratna on the occasion of foundation day.
2) Professor Raj Bisaria to get Madhya Pradesh government govt`s Kalidas Samman for Theatre

  • Madhya Pradesh government is honouring with its prestigious `Kalidas Samman` national award for 2015-16 for achievement in theatre to Renowned theatre personality of Lucknow and Padma Shri, Prof Raj Bisaria and theatre artist Banshi Kaul from Delhi.
  • It’s the first time that MP government has chosen someone from UP for the award.
  • The award will be presented on November 10 in Kalidas Academy, Ujjain by Governor OP Kohli.

3) 11-year-old Pune girl wins ‘Doodle 4 Google’ 2016 contest

  • 11 year old Pune girl Anvita Prashant Telang has been named national winner of the “Doodle 4 Google” contest.
  • The sixth standard student from Vibgyor High School in Balewadi area was chosen for her Doodle submission on the theme titled “If I could teach anyone anything, it would be”.
  • The Doodle will be featured on the Google India homepage on November 14 to celebrate Children’s Day.
4) Zuckerberg declared business person of the year

  • According to Fortune, his corporate discipline makes him an effective business person.
  • Currently he is 5th wealthiest person of the world.

5) Indian-origin humanitarian gets Global Citizenship Award

  • Imtiaz Sooliman, An Indian-origin man from South Africa, was awarded the Global Citizen Award for his "innovative and visionary" contribution to the global community.
  • Imtiaz Sooliman founded the internationally-lauded Gift of the Givers Foundation, which is Africa`s largest disaster relief organisation. 
6) Gulzar named for Tata LitFest`s Poet Laureate 2016 award

  • Lyricist-writer Gulzar will be honoured with 2016 Tata Literature Live! Poet Laureate Award. 
  • The award will be presented to Gulzar, an Oscar and Grammy Award winner, at the inaugural of the festival on November 17.

 

 

 

7) Tunisian leader among four conferred Jamnalal Bajaj Awards

  • Well-known Gandhian and President of Tunisia`s, Sheikh Rached Ghannouchi was among four prominent personalities conferred with the prestigious 39th Jamnalal Bajaj Foundation Awards for 2016.
  • The other recipients are: Mohan Hirabai Hiralal of Vrikshamitra and Bon Behari Vishnu Nimbkar, founder of Nimbkar Agricultural Research Institute, both from Maharashtra, and Nannapaneni Manga Devi, founder-secretary, Sri Venkateswara Bala Kuteer & Chetana Charitable Trust in Andhra Pradesh.
  • The award carried a citation, a trophy and a prize of Rs 10 lakh each.
8) SAIL wins Golden Peacock Award for corporate governance

  • The prestigious Golden Peacock Award for Corporate Governance for this year has been conferred upon the `Maharatna` firm, Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL).
  • Set up by the Institute of Directors, India, the award was received by Ashwini Kumar, CEO of Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) on behalf of SAIL during the 16th London Global Convention on Corporate Governance and Sustainability held in London recently.

9) Roger Federer wins Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award

  • Former world number one Roger Federer won the Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award at the ATP awards on 10th November, for the 12th time in his career. 
  • The award is given to players who display the "spirit of the sport" on the court.
