1) Michael Jackson has been listed forbes 2016 top earning dead celebrities list.

  • The late King Of Pop tops Forbes list of highest-paid dead celebrities with $825 million. He passed away seven years ago but Michael Jackson is still making money - and lots of it. 
  • In 2016 the late King of Pop earned a staggering $825 million, making him far and away the biggest dead celebrity earner of the year.
 
 
 
 
2) Amitabh was voted `Actor of the Millennium` in BBC poll.

  • Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan was voted the `greatest star of screen` in a millennium-celebrating poll conducted by BBC. 
  • He was ranked above personalities like Charlie Chaplin, Robert De Niro, Marilyn Monroe, and Govinda. The actor, who made his debut with the 1969 movie `Saat Hindustani`, turned 74.
 
 
3) Bank of Baroda appoints P.V. Sindhu and K. Srikanth as brand ambassadors.

  • Public sector bank Bank of Baroda has signed a principal sponsorship contract with badminton Olympians P.V. Sindhu and K. Srikanth. The three year deal with the two players was agreed in principle before they represented and made India proud on the International stage at the Rio 2016 Olympics. 
  • In 2005, the bank had appointed right hand batsman Rahul Dravid as its brand ambassador, though that contract has long since expired. 

4) A Valvoline ropes in Virat Kohli as its brand ambassador.

  • In an aggressive move that signals its serious intent to be a major player in the highly competitive engine oil category in the country, Valvoline Cummins India has signed up India Test captain Virat Kohli as its ambassador. 
  • As part of the association, Kohli will be the face of Valvoline engine oils and lubricants range. 
  • He was appointed as their Brand Ambassador of Celkon Mobiles and also joins Premier Futsal football league as brand ambassador on April 2016.
5) Amandeep Singh appointed as the next Ambassador/ PR of India to the UN Conference on Disarmament, Geneva.

  • Shri Amandeep Singh Gill (IFS: 1992) has been appointed as the next Ambassador/ PR of India to the UN Conference on Disarmament, Geneva.
  • The Conference on Disarmament (CD) is a forum established in 1979 by the international community to negotiate multilateral arms control and disarmament agreements.
 
 
6) Usain Bolt to retire after the 2017 World Championships.

  • Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt will be running his last race at June`s Racers Grand Prix before taking retirement from competition two months later. 
  • The 30-year-old sprinter has already asserted that he plans to retire from the sport after the 2017 World Championships scheduled to take place between August 5-13 in London.
  • Bolt is widely considered as the greatest sprinter of all-time and is the first man to hold both the 100m and 200m records as well as the record being a part of the 4X100m relay.
7) Aishwarya named Most Glamorous Female Star by Filmfare.

  • Actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has been named the Most Glamorous Star (Female) at the Absolut Elyx Filmfare Glamour & Style Awards. Actor Varun Dhawan received the award for the Most Glamorous Star (Male). Other awardees include actress Katrina Kaif named the Most Stylish Star (Female) and Priyanka Chopra received the Global Icon of the Year (Female) award.
 
 
 
 
8) Saina Nehwal gets honorary doctorate, says her father will be proud of her as he wanted her to be a doctor.

  • SRM University in Chennai conferred an honorary degree of doctor of literature on badminton player Saina Nehwal.
  • Nehwal became the third sportsperson to be conferred the doctorate by SRM University, after cricketer Murali Vijay and shooter Abhinav Bindra.
  • Besides Nehwal, SRM University bestowed an honorary doctorate on former chairman of the Law Commission of India Justice A.R. Lakshmanan.

 

9) Saina receives honorary doctorate from SRM University.

  • SRM University in Chennai conferred an honorary degree of doctor of literature on badminton player Saina Nehwal.
  • Nehwal is the third sportsperson to be conferred a doctorate by the university.
10) Jayasuriya Named as Brand Ambassador.

  • Former Sri Lankan cricket skipper Sanath Jayasuriya was named brand ambassador of the third edition of the STAIRS School Football League (SSFL).
  • STAIRS is a not-for-profit organization working towards sports, education, and health and skill development of children across India. 
  • SSFL-3 will begin with league matches at over 15 different venues across four zones in Delhi.

 

 
 
 
11) BCCI president Anurag Thakur part of powerful ICC sub-committee.

  • Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Anurag Thakur is now officially a part of the International Cricket Council`s (ICC) powerful Finance and Commercial Affairs committee after completion of the global cricket body`s board meeting in Cape Town.
  • The F&CA wing is arguably one of the most powerful decision making sub-committees of the ICC as all the revenue related financial aspects are passed through this committee.
12) Irom Sharmila announces her regional party People’s Resurgence and Justice Alliance.

  • After ending her fast of 16-long years, Irom Chanu Sharmila made the announcement that she will be launching her political party soon and the name of her party was revealed.
  • Irom’s party would be People’s Resurgence Justice Alliance and she will be contesting in the Manipur Assembly elections due for early next year. She had declared in August that she wanted to become the chief minister of Manipur so that she could repeal the contentious AFSPA in the state.
13) Ecuador admits cutting Julian Assange`s internet access over impact of leaks on US election.

  • Ecuador had cut the internet access of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, holed up at its London embassy, due to leaks by the anti-secrecy website that could impact the US election. 
  • WikiLeaks has in recent weeks published a damaging trove of hacked emails from Hillary Clinton`s presidential campaign, which accuses it of trying to sway the election in favor of Republican Donald Trump. 
  • The government of Ecuador respects the principle of non-intervention in the internal affairs of other states. It does not interfere in external electoral processes, nor does it favor any particular candidate.
14) Gujarat girl obtains flying license at 16.

  • Varija Shah from Baroda, Gujarat, aspires to join the Indian Air Force has obtained a student pilot license at the age of 16. She had joined the Gujarat flying club a year ago and enrolled her name in a flying course. The class 11 student flew the Cessna 152 aircraft as a co-pilot.
