1) Sir Ian McKellen honoured at UK Theatre Awards.

  • Veteran actor Ian McKellen was honoured at the UK Theatre Awards that took place in London for his individual contributions to British theatre. 
  • McKellen was honoured with the Outstanding Contribution to British Theatre prize.
2) Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank awarded by Ugandan govt for his literary work.

  • Former Uttarakhand chief minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank has been conferred with a prestigious award by the Ugandan government for promoting human values through his literature. 
  • Nishank, who is currently a BJP MP from Haridwar, has authored a number of books and anthologies.
 
 
3) Pune-based innovator gets international automation award.

  • Satish Pathak, a Pune-based innovator, has been awarded the the Excellence in Technical Innovation by the International Society of Automation. The innovation, called Digital Controlled Valve for Precise Liquid Dispensing by Gravity flow, has the capacity of saving for the industry and is a step change technology in industrial valves.
  • In 2008, Pathak decided to work on a valve to address the problems in the industrial valves being used.

  • Priyanka Chopra is an Indian actress, singer, philanthropist, and the winner of the Miss World 2000 pageant.
6) Indian-origin scientist bags young scientist award in US.

  • An Indian-origin scientist has bagged the prestigious Lemelson-MIT Prize worth USD 500,000 for his groundbreaking inventions to create solutions to improve lives globally.
  • Nasik-born Ramesh Raskar, 46, is founder of the Camera Culture research group at the MIT Media Lab and an Associate Professor of Media Arts and Sciences.
  • Raskar is the winner of the 2016 USD 500,000 Lemelson-MIT Prize for his groundbreaking inventions, commitment to youth mentorship, and dedication to improving our world with practical yet innovative solutions.
7) C. Radhakrishnan selected for Mathrubhumi Literary award.

  • Eminent writer C. Radhakrishnan has been selected for the Mathrubhumi Literary Award in recognition of his contribution to the field of literature.
  • The award carries a cash prize of Rs. 2 lakh, a citation and a statuette.
  • Radhakrishnan was selected by a panel chaired by novelist M. Mukundan with Sethu and Sarah Joseph being the other members of the jury.

8) Sonam Kapoor awarded ET Panache`s `Trendsetter Awards 2016`.

  • Sonam Kapoor was honoured with ET Panache`s `Trendsetter Awards 2016`. With her impeccable style sense and unconventional career choices, the 31-year-old actress was announced one of the winners of this year`s ET Panache Trendsetting Award.
  • Donning a Delpozo-style black attire teamed with a neat hairdo and large earrings, the `Aisha` star received the award.
  • Sonam`s performance in `Neerja`, her social endeavors and positive presence on social media was lauded through this recognition.

9) Robert De Niro to receive Chaplin Award.

  • The Film Society of Lincoln Center has named veteran actor Robert De Niro as the recipient of its 44th annual Chaplin Award, which honours major industry talents. 
  • De Niro will take home the 2017 trophy for a four-decade acting career that includes film credits like "Mean Streets", "Raging Bull", "The Godfather" and "Silver Linings Playbook", reports variety.com. 
  • He is also the co-founder of the Tribeca Film Festival, launched in the wake of 9/11 attack in an effort to boost the economic prospects of lower Manhattan. 
10) IRCTCs Maharajas Express gets Seven Star Luxury Hospitality and Lifestyle Award.

  • Adding to its string of impressive awards, The Maharajas` Express, the worlds most luxurious train owned and operated by Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), received the 2016 Seven Star Luxury Hospitality and Lifestyle Awards at Marbella in Spain.
  • The award for the highly decorated train was received by IRCTC Chairman and Managing Director Dr. A.K. Manocha in the `Seven Star Experience Sector`.
  • As part of the award, Maharajas` Express was presented the "Signum Virtutis", the seal of Excellence, from the Seven Star Luxury Hospitality and Lifestyle Awards at an impressive function held at the Villa Padierna Hotel in Marbella.
