1) JituRai bags silver medal at ISSF World Cup Final in Italy.
  • Ace Indian shooter Jitu Rai shrugged off the disappointment of a poor Olympic campaign by clinching a silver medal in the 50m pistol event of the ISSF World Cup Final.
  • Jitu, ranked seventh in the event, finished second in the qualifying round with a cumulative score of 568 to make it to the finals behind Ukraine`s Oleh Omelchuk and then narrowly lost out to China`s Wei Pang in the final to settle for silver.
 
 
 
2) Kyra beats Dhruthi.
  • Kyra Shroff celebrated her 24th birthday with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over her doubles partner Dhruthi Venugopal in the first round of the $25,000 ITF women’s tennis tournament.
  • Kyra converted four of 14 break-points in the match while saving nine of the ten she faced, dropping serve only in the second game of the second set. She also sent down fired seven aces in the match.

 

3) Harika Dronavalli Beats Hou Yifan At International Chess Meet.

  • Indias Harika Dronavalli defeated World No. 1 Hou Yifan to be at joint fourth position in the Isle of Man international chess tournament.
  • Harika was at her best as she manoeuvred past a determined Yifan to pull off her fourth win in the championship.
  • The captivating 45 move game slowly started devolving the Indian Grand Master`s way and she held on to her nerve for her first ever victory over the Chinese star.

 

4) Wrestler Bajrang Punia wins Mayor’s Trophy gold for India.
  • Freestyle wrestler Bajrang gave India the first gold medal of the Pune Mayor’s Trophy International Invitational Wrestling competition by beating Mongolia’s Batchuluun Batmagnai 6-4 in the Men’s 65-kg category final.
  • The competition was held at the Late Rajaram Bhiku Pathare Primary School’s Vithoba Maruti Pathare Indoor Stadium.

5) Virat Kohli becomes first India captain to score two double hundreds in Tests.
  • Virat Kohli once again achieved the feat of scoring a double hundred and hence becoming the first Indian captain to score two double centuries in Test matches. He scored the second double against New Zealand in the third Test in Indore, leading India to big total in first innings.
  • Kohli now has 13 Test centuries and 12 half-centuries in his 48 Test matches. Kohli also crosses the 3500 run mark in Tests during his innings.
6) Mercedes` Rosberg wins Japanese Grand Prix.
  • Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg capitalized on a slow start by teammate Lewis Hamilton to win the Japanese Grand Prix and widen his lead in the Formula One drivers’ championship. Rosberg, who started from pole position, controlled the race throughout and finished 4.9 seconds ahead of Red Bull driver Max Verstappen, who held off Hamilton in close racing over the final few laps. 
  • With four races remaining Rosberg holds a 33 point lead over Hamilton. The result clinched the constructors’ championship for Mercedes for the third year running.

7) JituRai awarded `Champion of Champions` title by ISSF.

  • Jitu Rai for being awarded the `Champion of Champions` title for pistol shooting in 2016 by the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF).
  • The army man beat Serbia`s Damir Mikec, 29.6 to 28.3 in the Champions Trophy 10m Air Pistol final held at the TSN Shooting Range in Bologna, Italy. Jitu was also awarded a cash reward of $5,587 (5000 euros) along with the title.
8) Indian shuttler Ruthvika Shivani bags Russian Open Grand Prix title.
  • Indian Shuttler Ruthvika Shivani Gadde clinched the Russian Open title after defeating Russia`s Evgeniya Kosetskaya (180) in finals of the women`s singles event at the Russian Open Grand Prix in Vladivostok.
  • The fourth seeded player defeated the Russian 21-10, 21-13 in a match that lasted for around 30 minutes.
