1) Indian-origin barrister Shami Chakrabarti appointed to UK shadow cabinet.

  • Jeremy Corbyn, Leader of the Labour Party and Leader of the Opposition appointed Indian-origin barrister Shami Chakrabarti to the UK’s shadow cabinet.
  • Baroness Chakrabarti’s appointment as a member of the Lords was met with criticism from prominent Jews and Labour MPs.
  • Corbyn also handed a major promotion to his long-time ally Diane Abbott, making her shadow home secretary.
  • Other appointees include Sir Keir Starmer, who has been invited back as shadow Brexit secretary.
  • Sharmishta "Shami" Chakrabarti is a member of the British House of Lords and a British Labour Party politician.
  • She was the Director of Liberty from 2003 to 2016.
  • The Times described her as probably the most effective public affairs lobbyist of the past 20 years.

2) P.V. Sindhu brand ambassador of Vizag Steel.

  • The Visakhapatnam Steel Plant has made Rio Olympics badminton silver medallist P.V. Sindhu as its brand ambassador. This was announced by Chairman and Managing Director of the Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited, corporate entity of the VSP, P. Madhusudhan.
  • Sindhu, currently amongst the top 10 ranked players in the world.

 

3) Renu Pall appointed as the next Ambassador of India to Austria.

  • Former Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer Renu Pall was appointed as the Ambassador of India to Austria. Her appointment was announced by the Union Ministry of External Affairs.
  • She will succeed Rajiva Misra in Austria. Currently, Pall is serving as the Ambassador of India to the Czech Republic.
  • Austria is a German-speaking country in Central Europe, characterized by mountain villages and baroque architecture.
  • She was previously the Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of India at Berlin.
  • She has been Director (US & Canada), Director (Foreign Secretary’s Office) and Under Secretary & Deputy Secretary (US & Canada) in MEA.
