1) PM Narendra Modi arrives in Laos to attend ASEAN, East Asia Summits.

  • Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived to attend the 14th India-ASEAN Summit and the 11th East Asia Summit to strengthen India’s trade and security ties with the strategic Southeast Asian region.
  • The India-ASEAN Summit will be attended by leaders of 10 Southeast Asian nations - Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam and Thailand.
  • The East Asia Summit will be attended by leaders of the 10 Asean nations and those of India, China, Japan, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, the US and Russia.
  • India has been seeking to join the exclusive 21-member APEC. This is the third time that Modi is attending these two Summits.

2) India Kazakhstan Joint Exercise ``Prabal Dostyk -16``.

  • India, Kazakhstan joint bilateral military exercise PRABAL DOSTYK-16 began in Karaganda region of Kazakhstan.
  • The fourteen day will be a significant step towards fostering military as well as diplomatic ties between both countries. `Prabal Dostyk` means `Robust Friendship`.
  • The exercise will be conducted in two stages; first stage will be to familiarize with each other’s tactics, drills, weapons & equipment.
  • In the second stage, troops of both the armies will graduate to jointly execute a helicopter-borne operation in a simulated environment.

3) India-Nepal Home Secretary level talks conclude.

  • India and Nepal decided to further strengthen bilateral security cooperation during the Home Secretary level talks.
  • Home Secretary Rajiv Mehrishi led the Indian side during the talks with his Nepalese counterpart Lok Darshan Regmi.
  • During the talks, both sides reviewed the entire gamut of bilateral security cooperation between the two countries and agreed to strengthen it further.
4) World`s largest wind turbine installed off UK coast.
  • Denmark-based Dong Energy has installed the first of the world`s largest wind turbines at its Burbo Bank windfarm off the coast of Britain.
  • The 8 MW turbines stand 195 metres tall from sea level and have a rotor diameter of 164 metres. The company plans to build 32 such turbines, which can generate enough electricity to power 2,30,000 homes.
  • The largest turbines currently installed, at Dong`s Westermost Rough wind farm off the Yorkshire coast, in the North Sea, have a 6 MW capacity and are around 177 meters tall.
  • Dong has a target to drive down costs of offshore wind power to 100 euros ($112.48) per megawatt hour (MWh) by 2020.
