1) Deepak Iyer appointed as Managing Director of Mondelez India.

  • Deepak Iyer was appointed as Managing Director of Mondelez International`s India Business.
  • He succeeds Chandramouli Venkatesan, who led the business as Managing Director of India operations for two years and was with the company for more than a decade.
  • Iyer, as Managing Director of Mondelez India Foods, will be part of the Asia Pacific Leadership Team and report into Maurizio Brusadelli, President of Asia Pacific, Mondelez International.

2) Anant Maheshwari named as President of Microsoft India.

  • Anant Maheshwari was named as the President of Microsoft India by the parent company Microsoft Inc.
  • Maheshwari will succeed Bhaskar Pramanik, who retires in March 2017.
  • Maheshwari, who will join Microsoft India on 1 September 2016, will take over operations of the company on 1 January 2017.
  • As president, Maheshwari will be responsible for all of Microsoft’s product, service, and support offerings across India.

3) Yuriko Koike elected Tokyo`s first female governor.

  • Tokyo`s new governor Yuriko Koike credited her landslide victory to having stood up to the powers that be in Japan`s ruling party, who didn`t want her to run.
  • Koike, was elected Tokyo`s first female governor, winning more than 2.9 million votes, far outpacing the nearly 1.8 million ballots cast for closest challenger Hiroya Masuda.
  • Masuda, a former governor of Iwate prefecture in northern Japan, was the favoured candidate of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe`s ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) and its coalition partner.

4) Nimesh Kampani resigns as Managing Director of JM Financial Ltd.

  • Nimesh Kampani resigned as the Managing Director of JM Financial Ltd with effect from 30 September 2016.
  • However, Kampani will continue to be the Non-Executive Chairman of the group and a director on the board of a few group companies at JM Financial.
  • Nimesh Kampani will be succeeded by his son Vishal Kampani as the Managing Director of JM Financial with effect from 1 October 2016.

5) BJP Parliamentary Board accepts resignation of Gujarat CM Anandiben Patel.

  • BJP Parliamentary Board accepted the resignation of Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel. She will meet State Governor OP Kohli to submit her resignation.
  • Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and BJP General Secretary Saroj Pandey have been appointed as the observers to oversee the election of new legislature party leader in the State.
  • Anandiben Patel offered to resign on 1 August 2016, ahead of the state assembly elections expected in 2017, citing her age. The term of the current assembly ends in January 2018.

6) Nita Ambani becomes first Indian woman IOC member.

  • Noted sports promoter and founder chairperson of Reliance Foundation, Nita Ambani was elected as an individual member of International Olympic Committee (IOC).
  • She was elected by IOC members at the 129th Session of the world body in Rio de Janeiro.
  • With this, she also becomes the first Indian woman to join the prestigious body which governs Olympic sports in the world.
  • Nita Ambani, the owner of Mumbai Indians cricket team franchise and founder of Indian Super League football tournament, was nominated for the post in June 2016 by the IOC Executive Board.
  • Sir Dorabji Tata was the first person to represent India in the IOC. Raja Randhir Singh is currently holding the post of an honorary member after serving the international body from 2000-2014.
  • Besides Nita Ambani, seven other IOC Members were elected at the 129th IOC Session ahead of the Olympic Games Rio 2016.

7) Vinod Rai steps down from IDFC Bank’s board.

  • Former Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India Vinod Rai has stepped down from private sector lender IDFC Bank’s board.
  • He will continue to be the non-executive independent chairman of IDFC Ltd.
  • Mr. Rai was on Mumbai- headquarter IDFC Bank board since its inception in October 2015.
  • He was appointed as the Chairman of Bank Board Bureau on 28 February 2016. He is also the current chairman of UN Panel of External Auditors and Honorary Advisor to the Railways as well as a member of the Railway Kaya Kalp Council.
  • He obtained a master`s degree in Economics from the University of Delhi, and Masters in Public Administration from Harvard University.
