1) Sheila Dikshit is Congress` CM candidate for Uttar Pradesh polls.

  • Sheila Dikshit was announced as the Chief Ministerial candidate from the Congress party for the Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls due next year.
  • Making the announcement, senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad added that Sanjay Singh will lead the election campaign committee.
  • Notably, Dikshit had previously served three terms as Delhi`s Chief Minister from 1998 to 2013.

2) Turkish musician Kudsi Erguner named UNESCO Artist for Peace.

  • Turkish musician Kudsi Erguner was appointed as the UNESCO Artist for Peace by the Director-General of UNESCO, Irina Bokova.
  • Erguner was appointed for the post at a ceremony held at the Congress Center in Istanbul (Turkey) after the opening ceremony of the 40th session of the World Heritage Committee, which ends on 20 July 2016.

Kudsi Ergüner was named in recognition of his efforts:

  1. To promote the universal values of music, an essential instrument of dialogue between cultures.
  2. For his contribution to the protection of musical heritage.
  3. His support for the International Decade of the Rapprochement of Cultures (2013-2022).
  4. His responsibility as a UNESCO Artist of Peace includes work for the updating of the forgotten musical heritage.

3) Indian-origin woman appointed to UK cabinet.

  • Indian-origin UK MP Priti Patel has been appointed as the International Development Secretary in PM Theresa May`s cabinet reshuffle.
  • Following the appointment, Patel vowed to work for deepening international partnerships and creating jobs in the developing world.

4) BJP leader Navjot Singh Sidhu resigns from RajyaSabha.

  • BJP MP Navjot Singh Siddhu resigned from the RajyaSabha, fuelling rumours that he may join the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) chief ministerial candidate in Punjab.
  • He was nominated to the Upper House in April 2016.
  • Deputy Chairman P.J. Kurien announced in the House that his resignation has been accepted.
  • Navjot Singh Sidhu (born 20 October 1963) is a former Indian cricketer and a former Member of Parliament from Amritsar (Lok Sabha constituency) between 2004 and 2014.

 

5) Mahendra Singh Dhoni named brand ambassador of Australian cricket academy.

  • Indian cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been named brand ambassador of the Craig McDermott International Cricket Academy in Australia.
  • It proposes to offer a four-year bachelor’s degree in sports science and management with special emphasis on cricket.
  • Dhoni has become the world’s first cricketer to be associated with a venture capital firm, tying up with Australia`s Secured Venture Capital.

6) Fox News Chief Roger Ailes resigns.

  • Roger Ailes has resigned from Fox News amid sexual harassment allegations an ignoble end to his legendary, controversial twenty-year tenure running the country`s dominant cable news channel.
  • Roger Ailes has long been viewed one of America`s most powerful conservatives.
  • Fox News Channel (FNC), also known as Fox News, is an American basic cable and satellite news television channel that is owned by the Fox Entertainment Group subsidiary of 21st Century Fox.
