1) 13-yr-old boy wins `India`s Got Talent` season 7.

  • Suleiman, the 13-year-old flute player from Amritsar won the seventh season of the reality television show `India`s Got Talent`.
  • A 50 lakh cash prize, a car and a trophy bearing the signatures of the judges Kirron Kher, Malaika Arora Khan and Karan Johar were handed over to Suleiman.
  • The young flautist is a student of Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia.
 

2) President confers 51st Jnanpith Award on Dr. Raghuveer Chaudhari.

  • President Pranab Mukherjee conferred the 51st Jnanpith Award on renowned Gujarati writer Dr. Raghuveer Chaudhari at Parliament Library Building, New Delhi.
  • He was awarded with the India`s highest literary honour for the year 2015.
  • He was given a cash prize, a citation plaque and a bronze replica of Goddess Saraswati.
  • With this, he also became the fourth Gujarati literary artist to receive the prestigious award. The other Gujarati recipients of the award are poet Umashankar Joshi (1967), novelist Pannalal Patel (1985) and poet Rajendra Shah (2001).
About Dr. Raghuveer Chaudhari:
  1. Born in 1938, the Gujarati writer is a Gandhian and his works are largely influenced by literary figures like Kaka Kalelkar.
  2. Chaudhari’s most significant contributions have been in Gujarati language but he has also written Hindi articles.
  3. His most noted works include novels Amruta, Venu Vatsala and Uparvas.
  4. At present, he is a trustee of the Gujarati Sahitya Parishad, a noted literary institution in the state, of which he was elected the president 2001.
  5. He served for the executive council of Sahitya Akademi from 1998 to 2002.

3) HDFC Bank`s Aditya Puri named best banking CEO in Asia.
  • Aditya Puri, the chief executive and managing director of the second largest private sector lender HDFC Bank, has been ranked as the best banking CEO in Asia by the investor community.
  • The bank`s chief financial officer Sashi Jagdishan has been ranked as the best CFO, apart from getting ranked as the best IR Company as well, thereby making it the most honored one in the Institutional Investor magazine.
 

4) Emirates named world`s best airline in 2016 Skytrax awards.

  • The world`s best airline for 2016 is Emirates, according to a survey of millions of airline passengers conducted by Skytrax.
  • The survey underscores the consistency of the quality service among the world`s top carriers.
  • The international airline Emirates based in Dubai has won the top honors at Skytrax World Airline Awards ceremony at the Farnborough International Airshow in England.

5) Mumbai square named after slain journalist Jyotirmoy Dey.
  • Mumbai’s civic body has renamed a city square near Hiranandani Garden in suburban Powai to Jyotirmoy Dey Chowk. This is an effort to recognise the contribution of veteran crime reporter Jyotirmoy Dey.
  • Mumbai Mayor SnehalAmbekar unveiled the plaque for `J DeyChowk` just across the road where the noted journalist was shot dead in 2011. Ms. Ambekar described Dey as a fearless journalist whose habit was to report the truth.
  • Dey often wrote on Mumbai underworld`s activities and gang-wars. He worked for leading publications like Mid-Day and Hindustan Times.
