1) Jayant Kapre quits as President of United Biscuits.

  • United Biscuits president Jayant Kapre has quit after leading the maker of McVities biscuits to an Rs. 150 crore-plus company in six years.
  • Kapre is joining American flavours maker International Flavors & Fragrances (IFF), a business-to-business supplier of flavours to makers of soft drinks, biscuits, confectionery and alcoholic beverages. He is taking over as managing director of the firm.
  • United Biscuits is yet to name a successor to Kapre who was the first employee of the British biscuit maker in the country, joining as president for India and South East Asia in 2009.
  • An alumnus of IIM-Ahmedabad, Kapre, started his career at Hindustan Unilever in 1996, and later worked with Gillette, Accenture, Wrigley and PepsiCo before joining United Biscuits.

2) Major General Per Lodin appointed to head UN Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan.

  • Major General per Lodin from Sweden was appointed as chief military observer and head of the UN Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP).
  • His appointment was approved by United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. He will succeed Major General Delali Johnson Sakyi of Ghana whose two-year term completes on July 2, 2016.

About Per Lodin

  1. Lodin is currently the head of Strategic Material Management at Forsvarets materielverk (FMV), the Swedish Defence Ministry’s procurement and logistics arm.
  2. He had earlier served as the head of the task force centre of Kosovo Force (KFOR), the multi-national peacekeeping mission led by NATO in 2006-2007.
  3. He began his military career in the Swedish Army in 1978.

 

3) Pedro Pablo Kuczynski wins Peru`s Presidential Election.
  • Peruvian economist Pedro Pablo Kuczynski defeated his rival Keiko Fujimori with a thin margin to become Peru’s next President.
  • The National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE) announced that the Peruvian political organization Peruanos Por el Kambio received the most votes representing 50.12% of valid votes.
About Pedro Pablo Kuczynski
  1. Pedro Pablo Kuczynski Godard, popularly known as PPK, is a Peruvian economist, politician and public administrator.
  2. He served as Prime Minister of Peru from 2005 to 2006.
  3. He worked in the United States before entering Peruvian politics. He held positions at both the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund before being designated as general manager of Peru`s Central Reserve Bank.
  4. He later served as Minister of Energy and Mines in the early 1980s under President Fernando Belaúnde Terry.
  5. He serves as Minister of Economy and Finance and Prime Minister under President Alejandro Toledo in the 2000s.
  6. He went on to stand in the 2016 election, where he defeated Keiko Fujimori in the second round.
4) Birender Singh, Subhas Chandra win Rajya Sabha seats from Haryana.
  • Union minister Birender Singh was re-elected to the Rajya Sabha from Haryana.
  • BJP backed-Independent candidate and media baron Subhash Chandra won the second seat in a contest marred by cross-voting with 14 votes of Congress being rejected.
  • Birender Singh was assured of a comfortable win while the main fight was between Chandra and Anand for the second seat.
 

5) New MD of Kerala Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation.

  • Dr. M. Beena, has been appointed as Managing Director of the Kerala Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (KINFRA), a statutory body of the Kerala Government.
  • KINFRA aims at bringing together all the suitable resources available in the state and developing infrastructure to woo the industrial growth of the state.
  • KINFRA is dedicated to catalysing industrial growth in Kerala by providing the best industry-specific-infrastructure.
  • Dr. Beena is currently the Managing Director of KSIDC (Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation) and KSIE (Kerala State Industrial Enterprises).

6) Delhi Transport Minister Gopal Rai resigns.

  • Delhi Transport Minister Gopal Rai resigned citing poor health.
  • Rai recently underwent major surgery to remove a bullet that had been lodged in his neck for 17 years.
  • His resignation was accepted by Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal who gave his portfolio to cabinet colleague Satyendar Jain.
  • Jain already holds key portfolios of Public Works Department (PWD), Health, Power and Home.
  • With this resignation, the departments left with Rai are the Labour, Irrigation and Flood Control department, the General Administration Department and the Development and Employment department.

  1. Gopal Rai is a Post-graduate in Sociology from Lucknow University.
  2. He began his career with the All India Students Association, the student wing of the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) Liberation, in Lucknow University in 1992.
  3. He is a member of the National Executive of the Aam Aadmi party.
  4. He was elected as MLA from Babarpur constituency in Delhi Legislative election 2015 and got the Ministry of Transport and Labour.
