1) Asia’s 50 Most Powerful Businesswoman List Topped By Nita Ambani.

  • Reliance Foundation Chairperson Nita Ambani has been named the most powerful businesswoman in Asia by Forbes, leading a list of 50 women leaders from the region that includes eight from India.
  • SBI Chairman and Managing Director Arundhati Bhattacharya has been ranked second on the 2016 `Asia`s 50 Power Businesswomen` list.
  • Features trailblazing women from China, Indonesia, Australia, Vietnam, Thailand, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, the Philippines and New Zealand.

2) Sachin becomes the Brand Ambassador of Skill India.

  • Government has roped in cricketing legendSachin Tendulkar to endorse the `I Support Skill India` campaign, in an attempt to reach out to the youth and build awareness on the importance of skill development.
  • The campaign of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) is an endeavour to galvanise stakeholders across states, organisations and industries to bring value and respect to skills and standardise the ecosystem to meet human resource requirements nationally and globally.
  • The ministry`s target is to skill 40.2 crore youth by 2022.
  • It has also introduced its flagship scheme Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY), the world`s largest monetary reward scheme promoting skill development to those who need financial support.

 

3) Lava announces M.S. Dhoni as its new brand ambassador.
 
  • NEW DELHI: Indian cricket legend M.S. Dhoni has been signed on as a brand ambassador by local handset maker Lava International, the company.
  • M.S. Dhoni will be the new face of Lava`s multi-channel marketing campaign as well as brand engagement activities, as the company aims to strengthen it`s brand in India, where it is amongst the top five players by volume.
  • Lava International Limited, founded in 2009, achieved revenues of $1.2 billion (over Rs. 8,000 crore) in FY 2014-15, registering more than 100% growth over FY 2013-14.
  • According to Counterpoint Research`s October to December data, Lava was the fastest growing Indian smartphone brand globally in 2015.
  • The company`s larger local rivals Micromax has Hollywood actor Hugh Jackman as it`s brand ambassador while Intex has Farhan Akhtar promoting it`s Aqua range of smartphones.
  • Lava has already set up its first manufacturing plant in Noida and plans to invest Rs. 2615 crore in a phased manner to scale it up to have an annual production capacity of 216 million phones.
  • The company also has overseas operations in Thailand, Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Indonesia, Mexico, Middle East and Russia and is the No. 1 smartphone brand in Thailand.
4) Varanasi Kathak Dancer Breaks World Record.
  • Varanasi`s Soni Chaurasia who was on a mission to break the world record by performing kathak for 124 hours straight has succeeded in doing so.
  • Soni had invited PM Narendra Modi to witness the moment when she made the world record. But, unfortuntely the prime minister could not make it. MoS Railways Manoj Sinha was present at the occasion to encourage her.
5) Miss Delhi Priyadarshini Chatterjee crowned Miss India World.
  • Miss Delhi Priyadarshini Chatterjee was announced as the winner of FBB Femina Miss India World by Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan.
  • During a star-studded ceremony, which was attended by eminent names from the film and fashion industry?
  • Priyadarshini will represent India at the Miss World 2016 pageant. She saw off competition from Bangalore girl Sushruthi Krishna, who was the 1st runner up and Lucknow’s Pankhuri Gidwani, to win the title.
  • Shah Rukh kept the contestants entertained with his charm and humour as he promoted his upcoming film ``Fan`` before announcing the winners of the pageant. 

6) Sachin Tendulkar to endorse I Support Skill India campaign.

  • Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) has roped in master blaster Sachin Tendulkar to bat for its “I Support Skill India" campaign.
  • The ministry endeavours to galvanise all stakeholders across states, organisation, and industries, to bring value and respect to skills and standardise the ecosystem to address human resource requirements across the nation.
  • Rajiv Pratap Rudy, minister of state for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (Independent Charge) and Parliamentary Affairs, "It is imperative that we build respect for skills and that is exactly the idea behind our new campaign.

7) Sushila Karki: First female Chief Justice of Nepal’s Supreme Court.

  • Sushila Karki became the first female acting Chief Justice of Nepal`s Supreme Court, ending the male domination of top posts in the judiciary.
  • The Constitutional Council of Nepal has selected Justice Sushila Karki (63) for the post of Chief Justice (CJ) of the Supreme Court of the country.
  • She will become 26th chief justice of the apex court and the first female CJ in Nepal’s history.
  • She will succeed Kalyan Shrestha who retired from the top post. She shall have tenure of 1 year and retire in June 2017 upon reaching the age limit.
