1) Sonakshi Sinha Enters Guinness World Record For Nail Painting.
  • Actress Sonakshi Sinha has become a Guinness World Records title-holder as she along with several other women participated in an initiative to set a record for ‘most people painting their fingernails simultaneously’.
  • The 28-year-old actress participated in the event on the occasion of International Women’s Day.
  • She collaborated with Inglot, manufacturers in colour cosmetics, and its Indian franchise partner Major Brands.
  • The women broke the previous record of 1,156 people painting nails simultaneously which was created by Taiwan Nail Association at Banqiao Stadium, New Taipei City, Taiwan on April 27, 2011.
 
2) Anand Mahindra conferred with France`s Chevalier de la Legion d`Honneur.
  • Mahindra & Mahindra Chairman and Managing Director (MD) Anand Mahindra was conferred with Chevalier de la Legion d’Honneur (Knight of the Legion of Honour) by French Government.
  • He was presented with this award by Francois Richier, Ambassador of France to India in recognition of his outstanding national and international achievements.
  • Anand Mahindra is one of the most prominent business leaders in India. Under his leadership Mahindra & Mahindra group has turned into a global company of outstanding repute.
About Knight of the Legion of Honour :
  1. Chevalier de la Legion d’Honneur is the highest French civilian award which was started by first emperor of France Napoleon Bonaparte in 1802.
  2. It is bestowed upon person for his outstanding service to France, regardless of the nationality. Its motto is Honour and Fatherland.

Note: Anand Mahindra’s father Harish Mahindra and uncle Keshub Mahindra have also been recipients of this award in the past. 

3) Pope Francis announced Mother Teresa to be granted Sainthood.

  • Pope Francis announced that Mother Teresa will be made a saint of the Roman Catholic Church at a ceremony on 4 September 2016.
  • The pope cleared the way for sainthood to Mother Teresa, who was famed for her lifetime of service to the poor, establishing shelters for homeless, orphanages, soup kitchens and clinics around the world.
  • The Vatican credited her with the 2008 cure of a Brazilian man who had been suffering from brain tumors.
  • The first step toward making her a saint took place in 2002 when Mother Teresa was credited with the healing of a Bengali woman who suffered from tuberculosis and cancer.
4) Obama nominated Merrick Garland for Chief Justice of US Supreme Court.
  • President Barack Obama nominated appeals court judge Merrick Garland to be the next US Supreme Court Justice. 63-year-old Garland will be 113th Supreme Court justice of the US.
  • Garland, who is the Chief Judge on the US Court of Appeals in D.C. Circuit, will succeed Justice Antonin Scalia who died.
  • Justice Garland is viewed as a moderate and has won praise from senior Republican figures. The appointment has to be ratified by the Senate, but its Republican majority has vowed to block a vote on any Supreme Court nominee from Obama.
5) Vijay Mallya resigned as Director of Royal Challengers Sports Private Limited.
  • The Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) intimated Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) that Vijay Mallya had resigned from his post as the Director of Royal Challengers Sports Private Limited (RCSPL).
  • Following this, an official from the RCB, Russell Adams was named as the new Director of RCSPL and also assumes the role of being the vice-president of Commercial Operations and Cricket Academy at RCB.
  • The intimation was was followed the BCCI`s insistence on clarity regarding the ownership of RCB.
