1) Rahul Johri assumes charge as first ever CEO of BCCI.

  • Rahul Johri assumed charge as first ever chief executive officer (CEO) of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in Mumbai.
  • He was appointed on the recommendation of the Justice Lodha Committee.
  • He will be report to the BCCI secretary Ajay Shirke and will be based at headquarters of BCCI in Mumbai.
  • He will be responsible for smooth functioning of operations, stakeholder management and building robust strategies for promoting of sport.
  • Before joining BCCI, he served as Asia Pacific`s Executive Vice-President for Discovery Networks and General Manager for South Asia.
  • He is widely respected in the broadcasting industry for converting Discovery to a 11-channel bouquet.
  • He was associated with Discovery Networks for the last 15 years and was leading South Asia operations for the past eight years.
2) Sachin Tendulkar`s name to be used in Kerala Government`s Anti-Drug Campaign.
  • This was announced by the Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. He announced that the cricket icon has given his consent to use his name to strengthen the campaign against liquor and drug abuse in the state.
  • This agreement was reached when Tendulkar along with three other co-owners of the Kerala Blasters Football Club (KBFC) met Vijayan at the state secretariat.
  • The other co-owners of KBFC are actor-turned politician Chiranjeevi, actor Akkineni Nagarjuna and Prasad.
  • Besides, KBFC also agreed to set up a residential Football Academy to train young talents in the state.
 

3) Nita Ambani nominated for International Olympic Committee.

  • Nita Ambani, Founder and Chairperson of Reliance Foundation have been nominated as a candidate to be a new member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
  • She is the first Indian woman to be nominated to the IOC and is being considered in the category of volunteers who represent the IOC and Olympic Movement in their country.
  • Sir Dorabji Tata was the first Indian representative in the IOC while Raja Randhir Singh was a member from 2000-2014 and is currently a honorary member of the IOC.
  • Nita Ambani spearheads all sports initiatives of Reliance Industries’, notably cricket, football, kabaddi, basketball, tennis and golf either through company, foundation or its joint ventures.
4) Goa-born Sayonara Luxton is mayor of UK Royal borough.
  • Goa-born Sayonara Luxton has taken charge as the mayor of the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead in southeast England.
  • Councillor Luxton, in her 60s, had been serving as the deputy mayor of the area for the past year and was proposed to take over by former mayor Councillor Dee Quick.
  • Ms Luxton moved from Goa to Dubai at the age of 21 to join other members of her family and had a successful career with Airbus Industries.
  • She is in her third term as Sunningdale Councillor.

5) Dia Mirza named ambassador for `Swachh Saathi`.

  • Bollywood actress and producer Dia Mirza has been named the ambassador for Swachh Bharat Mission’s youth-based Swachh Saathi (student internship) programme.
  • The star actress will take forward the message of the government’s Swachh Saathi programme, which she hails as the most important part to realise the dream of a clean country.
  • Under the Swachh Saathi programme, more than 2,000 interns would be enrolled, who would coordinate with around 10,000 schools across the country and ensure that all students in these schools take the pledge for Clean India.
  • As the ambassador, the actress would interact with school and college students from across the country through awareness sessions, community cleaning activities and motivational videos.
6) IOC honours IOA chief N. Ramachandran with Olympic Order.
  • Indian Olympic Association president N. Ramachandran has been awarded with the prestigious Olympic Order by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for his outstanding services to the Olympic movement.
  • His name has been chosen by the International Olympic Committee President Dr. Thomas Bach and by the IOC Executive Board.
  • The Olympic Order is the highest award of the Olympic Movement which is awarded in recognition of efforts worthy of merit in the cause of sport.
  • Mr. Ramachandran has been serving as Indian Olympic Association president since February 2014. Prior to this he was serving as President of World Squash Federation (WSF) since 2008.
  • He is an Indian squash administrator. Earlier to him, former IOA president, the late BS Adityan was the other Indian to be honored with the same award in 1995. 
7) Former Adobe Executive Umang Bedi Appointed as Managing Director Of Facebook India.
  • Former Adobe executive Umang Bedi was appointed as managing director of Facebook India.He will take over from Kirthiga Reddy, who will be returning to the US to take on a new role at the company’s Menlo Park headquarters.
  • Bedi’s appointment will be effective from July, and he will lead in building and maintaining strategic relationships with top clients and regional agencies in India.
  • Umang Bedi was managing director of the South Asia region at Adobe and has around 20 years of leadership experience covering sales, marketing and partnerships.
  • He is an engineering graduate from University of Pune, and alumni of Harvard Business School. It`s a promising opportunity to participate in India`s digital growth, and I can`t think of a better place to be at.
