1) In a bid to curb vehicular pollution in the country, the Union Govt. decided to implement stricter emission norms of Bharat Stage (BS) VI and skip the BS-V norms altogether. BS VI will be implemented from 1 April 2020. This decision was taken at an inter-ministerial meeting chaired by Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari.

2) Country’s third largest software services firm Wipro has appointed Bhanumurthy BM as President and COO. The company has also formed a new unit, Marketing, Innovations and Technology (MIT), which will be headed by Wipro’s Global Infrastructure Services (GIS) Head G K Prasanna.

 

3) China announced that it began testing the country’s first Tibet language search engine named ‘Cloud Tibet’.


4) Lt Gen JFR Jacob (retd), who negotiated the surrender of Pakistani troops in Dhaka following the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971, passed away. Post retirement, he also served as the Governor of Goa and Punjab.
