1) Bollywood actress and former Miss World Priyanka Chopra has won the Favourite Actress in a New TV series award at the People’s Choice Awards 2016 held in Los Angeles, USA for her leading role in American TV thriller series ‘Quantico’.


2) The Reserve Bank of India Governor Raghuram Rajan was felicitated with the Central Banker of the Year Award (Global and Asia Pacific) for 2016. The award was given by the Financial Times Group’s monthly publication The Banker. The Central Banker of the Year 2016 Awards celebrates the officials that have best managed to stimulate growth and stabilise their country’s economy.

3) Popular Bengali writer Mani Sankar Mukherji, better known as Sankar to his legions of readers, will be awarded an honorary D.Litt. by the University of North Bengal at its 46th Convocation in Siliguri on February 18.

4) The Nati folk dance of Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh was listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the largest folk dance in the world.Nati entered in the book as the largest folk dance in terms of participants’ number. Total 9892 women participated in this folk dance in their traditional colourful Kulluvi on 26 October 2015 during International Dussehra festival.


5) Barcelona forward Lionel Messi has won the Ballon d’Or award for the world’s best player for the fifth time.The 28-year-old Argentine had 41.33% of the vote, with Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo (27.76%) second and Barca’s Neymar (7.86%) third.

6) United States World Cup-winning captain Carli Lloyd has won the FIFA women’s world player of the year award for 2015. Lloyd dominated a worldwide vote and collected the award at FIFA’s annual awards ceremony in Zurich.
 

7) The Neerja Bhanot Pan Am Trust conferred the Neerja Bhanot award on Subhashini Vasanth of Bengaluru in Chandigarh.The award will be presented by Bollywood actress Sonam Kapoor.


8) American documentary on the life of Pakistani female activist and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Malala Yousafzai, “He Named Me Malala”, has been nominated at the 68th BAFTA Awards.

9) Leonardo DiCaprio won the Golden Globe award for best dramatic actor in The Revenant. The Revenant earned Globes for best motion picture and best director for Alejandro Inarritu.

10) GMR Group Chairman G.M. Rao was honoured with the ‘Bulandh Bharath’ Award for his Exemplary contributions towards nation building.
