1) Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Mufti Mohammad Sayeed passed away. He was 79. Sayeed, a two-time chief minister, started his second tenure on March 1st, 2015 in alliance with the BJP, after having led the State government between 2002-05 previously. He had also served as Home Minister of India.


2) Amitabh Kant, secretary in the department of industrial policy and promotion, has been appointed as the chief executive officer (CEO) of the NITI Aayog. He will take over the job after his retirement from service in February end. Kant has been appointed in place of former IAS officer Sindhushree Khullar, who was appointed as the first CEO of the Niti Aayog.

3) Devender Kumar Sikri, Gujarat’s former IAS officer, has been appointed as Chairman of fair-trade regulator Competition Commission of India (CCI). He succeeds Ashok Chawla. Sikri will have a tenure of about two and half years, i.e. till he attains the age of 65 years.


4) Pavan Kapoor has been appointed as India’s new ambassador to Israel. He is a 1990 batch Indian Foreign Service officer. At present Pavan Kapoor is working as the high commissioner in East Africa’s Maputo.
 

5) Dr. Achyuta Samanta has been elected as the General President of the 105th Indian Science Congress Association (ISCA) that is scheduled for 2017-18. Samanta is also currently serving as member of Executive Council of Indian Science Congress Association (ISCA).


6) Senior IAS officer Sailesh was today appointed as Registrar General and Census Commissioner. Sailesh, a 1985 batch IAS officer of Assam-Meghalayacadre, is presently Additional Secretary in Home Ministry. He has been appointed in place of C Chandramouli
