1) India, Pakistan exchange lists of nuclear facilities, prisoner

  • India and Pakistan on 1st January exchanged the list of their nuclear installations and facilities . This is done on 1st of January every year under the Agreement on the Prohibition of Attack against Nuclear installations that bars them from attacking each other`s atomic facilities.
  • The agreement, which was signed on 31 December 1988 and entered into force on 27 January 1991, provides that the two countries inform each other of nuclear installations and facilities. This is the twenty fifth consecutive exchange of such list between the two countries, the first one having taken place on 1 January 1992.

 

  • The two countries also exchanged the lists of nationals including civil prisoners and fishermen of each country lodged in their jails. The list was exchanged through diplomatic channels at New Delhi and Islamabad. This has been done in consistent with the provisions of the Agreement on Consular Access between the two countries.
  • The agreement, which was signed on 31st of May 2008, provides for exchange of comprehensive list of nationals of each country lodged in other country’s jails twice each year, on 1st of January and 1st of July.
