1) Names of Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi Axed from two Hindi Diwas.

  • The government has dropped the names of former Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi from two awards for propagating Hindi.
  • The two awards have been discontinued by the Home Ministry and instead launched two new schemes for doing outstanding work for promoting the progressive use of official language.
  • `Rajbhasha Kirti Puraskar` awards scheme from 2015-16 to encourage the implementation of the official language policy, in supersession to the earlier `Indira Gandhi Rajbhasha Puruskar`
  • `Rajbhasha Gaurav Puraskar Yojana` was being introduced from 2015-16 with an object to encourage writing of books in Hindi in various streams of modern knowledge/ science and to promote the language, in supersession to the `Rajiv Gandhi Rashtriya Gyan-Vigyan Maulik Pustak Lekhan Puraskar`.

  • United Spirits Limited announced the resignation of Pathai Ananthasubramanian Murali, who was its executive director and chief financial officer.

  • Sandra Bullock has been named PEOPLE`s 2015 World`s Most Beautiful Woman!," gracing the cover of this year`s "Most Beautiful".
  • Bullock is the second Oscar-winning actress in a row to score the cover of the annual issue, with Lupita Nyong’o 2014’s “Most Beautiful Woman”.

 

4) Hinduja brothers ousted as Britain`s richest.

  • Srichand and Gopichand Hinduja with a fortune of £13 billion were edged out from the top spot.
  • Warner Music owner Len Blavatnik jumped three places from last year to become Britain`s richest man with a £13.17 billion fortune.
  • Sri and Gopi Hinduja, who occupied the top slot last year, were pushed down to the second spot despite their fortune rising by £1.1 billion to £13 billion.
 

5) CJI (Chief justice of India) refuses participation to choose NJAC members until legality is decided by apex court.

  • CJI H L Dattu had informed Prime Minister Narendra Modi that he would not join the panel until the Supreme Court decided on the validity of the new system to appoint judges.
  • A five-judge Constitution bench of the Supreme Court is hearing petitions challenging the NJAC (National Judicial Appointments Commission), passed in Parliament and notified by the government.
  • The three-member panel is to have the Chief Justice, Prime Minister and the Leader of Opposition. It will select and appoint to two eminent persons to the six-member NJAC.
  • The chief justice has also refused to be in the panel to select two eminent persons who are to be in the six-member commission.
6) President of Sudan is re-elected with 94 Percent of Vote.
 
  • Sudan’s President Omar al-Bashir has won Presidential re-election by securing 94 per cent of the vote, extending his 25-year rule despite war-crimes charges and domestic rebellions.
  • The Election Commission put turnout at 46.4 percent and denied widespread reports of low participation.
  • In this election Omar’s National Congress Party (NCP) also won 323 of 426 parliamentary seats.
  • Bashir, who took power in a bloodless coup in 1989, is the only sitting head of state facing genocide charges at the International Criminal Court. The charges stem from the conflict in the Darfur region.
