1) Hyderabad boy M. Kartik stands second in Sudoku competition.

 

  • M. Kartik Reddy and his team mate Shambo of Kolkata who represented the country in the under-15 category at The World Junior Sudoku Championship (WJSC) held in Beijing, stood second at the event.
  • On the first day, the team cleared four rounds where they solved Sudoku puzzles in 30 minutes per round. The next day, the puzzles were to be solved independently by the participants.
  • There were 4 rounds each of 40 minutes.
  • In addition to this, the Indian team is also part of a Guinness record breaking competition where a giant 200 grid inter-connected Sudoku was successfully solved by 200 participants.

2) McCann bags Incredible India`s creative duties.

 

  • The Tourism Ministry’s Incredible India advertising campaign has been bagged by advertising agency McCann India for a period of three years.
  • McCann has also been responsible for the set of four commercials on `Atithi Devo Bhava`, from the Tourism Ministry, which is currently playing on air, and which feature superstar Aamir Khan.

3) NDDB wins special achievement in GIS Award.

 

  • The National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) has won the prestigious Esri Special Achievement in GIS Award, 2015 for exemplary work in Dairy Geographical Information System.
  • The Award ceremony was held at the annual Esri International User Conference in San Diego and presided over by Jack Dangermond, the president and founder of Esri.
  • NDDB’s Internet-based Dairy Geographical Information System (i-DGIS) application is the first attempt of its kind in India, where village-level integration of data has been done, at such a large scale, for the dairy sector.
  • GIS analysis, both spatial and non-spatial, is now possible on an integrated dataset of village level livestock census, human census and land use/ land cover for over 500,000 villages out of around 620,000 villages of India.
  • This represents the major milk producing states of the country, which produce around 92% of India`s bovine milk.


4) Hindi litterateur Kashinath Singh chosen for Bharat Bharti literary award 2014.

 

  • Noted Hindi litterateur Kashinath Singh has been chosen for the state`s highest literary award, Bharat Bharti.
  • The award, given by UP Hindi Sansthan, carries a cash prize of Rs. 5 lakh.
  • Kashinath Singh (78) has penned many novels and short stories.
  • His most famous novel is `Kashi ka Assi`, which captures the vibrant hues of Banaras.
  • The novel has been adopted for the upcoming movie `Mohalla Assi`.
  • Some prominent awardees include Mridula Garg (Lohia Sahitya), Vinod Kumar Shukla (Hindi Gaurav), Krishna Bihari Mishra (Mahatama Gandhi Sahitya Samman), Abhiraj Rajendra Mishra (Deendayal Upadhaya Sahitya Samman), Ramkrishna Rajput (Avantibai Sahitya Samman).
  • The litterateur is known to have candid political opinions and opposed Modi`s arrival in Varanasi for Lok Sabha elections, saying he would use the holy city for Hindutva agenda.


5) Ex-Jalore EO given Election Commission`s award.

 

  1. Former Jalore Electoral Officer (EO) Rajan Vishal has been chosen for Election Commission’s Zonal award under the Best Electoral Practices Award-2014.
  2. Rajan Vishal was bestowed with this award for his efforts of creating awareness related to voting awareness in Jalore constituency of Rajasthan during the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
  3. Presently Vishal is District Collector of Nagaur. He is IAS officer of 2008-batch of Rajasthan.

6) Zhanna Nemtsova awarded with solidarity prize 2015 of Poland.

7) Raghavendra Gadagkar conferred with Cross of Order of the Merit Award of Germany.

 

  • Gadagkar is a professor at the Centre for Ecological Sciences, Indian Institute of Science (IISc). He is also the president of the Indian National Science Academy and has published more than 270 research papers and two books.
  • He is recipient of Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Award in Biology (1993).
