1) Shubham Jaglan won IJGA World Stars of Junior Golf event 2015.

  • Shubham, who is the son of a milkman from rural Haryana, India, has broken all stereotypes and won the IJGA (International Junior Golf Academy) World Stars of Junior Golf event in Las Vegas.
  • He shot a three round score of 106 winning by a five-stroke margin, ahead of two Americans Justin Dang and Sihan Sandhu and Thailand`s Pongsapak Laopakdee for the Boys 9-10 years category title.
 
2) Amitoj Chhabra wins jr title at US Powerlifting Championships.
  • 20-year old Indian-American Amitoj Chhabra won the junior title at the latest United States Powerlifting Association National Championships in Las Vegas.
  • In this championship, Chhabra had squatted 485 pounds, bench pressed 325 and had dead-lifted 573.
About Amitoj Chhabra:
Amitoj Chhabra is son of a Punjabi father and a Nepali mother.
He had started powerlifting in 2013 and began competing at various championships in May 2014.
He holds 7 Nevada state powerlifting records of which three are in the 18-19 age category. Now, he is also competing in the 20-23 age category, where he still holds same records.

3) Government constitutes `All India Council of Sports`.

  • Government of India has constituted `All India Council of Sports`. The council will be an advisory body for the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
  • The council may organize national, international conferences, seminars, symposia etc, for promotion of sports and games in the country.
  • The Council will be headed by a President in the rank of Minister of State and will include four Members of Parliament
  • Appointments of the President and members of the Council other than ex-officio members shall be made by the Government.
Objectives of the All India Council of Sports:
  1. Popularizing sports amongst the youth as a way of life
  2. Increasing outreach of sports to rural and tribal areas, areas affected by left wing extremism, north east and Jammu & Kashmir.
  3. Matters relating to promotion of inclusiveness in sports with special focus on women, differently-abled, tribals etc.
  4. Preventing drug abuse in sports, fraud of age and sexual harassment of women in sports.
  5. Issues arising out of match fixing and other malpractices in competitive sports.
  6. Integration of sports in educational curriculum in schools, colleges and universities.
 
 
4) Oman, Afghanistan Qualify for World T20.
  • Oman and Afghanistan have grabbed the last two places in next year`s ICC World Twenty20 tournament in India.
  • Afghanistan overcame Papua New Guinea by six wickets with 10 balls to spare at Malahide, Dublin, to qualify for the event for the fourth successive time.
  • Oman then beat Namibia by five wickets at the same venue to qualify for their first major global cricket tournament.
  • Oman are coached by former Sri Lanka captain Duleep Mendis, and have also recently recruited ex-England all-rounder Derek Pringle as a technical advisor.

 

5) Ferrari’s Driver Sebastian Vettel Won Hungarian Grand Prix.
  • Ferrari Formula One driver Sebastian Vettel of Germany won Hungarian Grand Prix in Budapest.
  • The second and third place was taken by Red Bull driver Daniil Kvyat of Russian and Red Bull driver Daniel Ricciardo of Australia respectively.
  • Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton of Britain came in at sixth position.
  • Chris Froome wins second Tour de France title.
  • British cyclist Chris Froome from Team Sky of Britain, won 102nd Tour de France in a three-week slog of furious race around the Champs Elysees, Paris.
  • The Team Sky now has three victories in its pocket. The first vistory was marked by former Team Sky leader Bradley Wiggins claiming the 2012 edition, followed the two victories of Froome in 2013 and 2015.
 
6) Dutee Chand, Female Sprinter, Wins Right to Compete.
  • Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) based in Lausanne, Switzerland allowed Indian women athlete Dutee Chand to compete in women’s event.
  • Sprinter Dutee Chand from Chaka Gopalpur village in Orissa.
  • The historic verdict was given by CAS chaired by Justice Annabelle Claire Bennett (Federal Court of Australia). In its verdict, CAS suspended the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) regulation governing eligibility of females with naturally-occurring Hyperandrogenism.
  • On July 18 2014, the Athletics Federation of India had removed Dutee’s name from the team for the Commonwealth Games after she was tested for hyperandrogenism .
  • Divij and Skupski pair Takes Crown.
  • Divij Sharan(Indian), partnering Ken Skupski of Britain, clinched the doubles title in the Euro 42,500 men’s Challenger tennis tournament in Recanati,Italy
  • They Defeated Ilija Bozoljac of Serbia and Flavio Cipolla of Italy.
  • The title was worth 2650 Euros and 90 ATP points.

7) Working Group Constituted for Re-drafting of the National Sports Development Code of India.

  • Justice Mahajan Committee constituted for Re-drafting National Sport Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports constituted a Working Group on re-drafting National Sports Development Code of India (NSDCI).
  • The aim of constituting the working group is to make the NSDCI more relevant from both sports governance and legal angles.
  • The nine-member Working Group will be headed by Justice C.K. Mahajan (retd.), Former Judge of Delhi High Court.
The terms of reference of the Working Group shall be as follows:
  1. To examine the existing NSDCI from both sports governance and legal angles and fine-tune/ revise the same with the purpose of making it more precise and succinct.
  2. To make specific recommendations on preparation of Electoral College and streamlining of State/ District bodies.
  3. To make any other recommendations, as deemed fit.
  4. The Committee shall submit the revised draft of the NSDCI within three months.

 

8) Russia s Natalia Ishchenko (Swimmer) sets new record with 21st medal.
  • Russia`s Natalia Ishchenko became the most decorated synchronised swimmer as she won her 21st major medal by taking gold in the individual freestyle at the world championships in Kazan.
About FINA World Championships:
  1. 16th FINA World Championships are held in Kazan, Russia from 24 July to 9 August 2015
  2. Competitions are held in six sports (swimming, open water swimming, diving and high diving, synchronized swimming, and water polo) in three main competition venues.
 
9) Paytm wins title sponsorship rights for BCCI matches till 2019.
  • One 97 Communications, owners of Paytm, acquired the title sponsorship rights for India’s domestic and international cricket matches at home for a period of four years with a bid price of Rs. 203.28 crore.
  • From now on, the domestic Ranji competition will be known as the `Paytm Ranji Trophy`.
  • There were only two bidders for the scheduled 84 matches (Tests, ODIs and T20Is) in India during the upcoming seasons as the rights have been awarded till 2019.
