1) Zaheer Khan announces retirement from International Cricket.

  •  Zaheer Khan, one of India’s finest pacers retired from all forms of international and first-class Cricket. However, he will continue to play in IPL for one more season.
About Zaheer Khan:
  1.  With 311 wickets he is the fourth highest Indian wicket-taker in Tests behind Anil Kumble (619), Kapil Dev (434) and Harbhajan Singh (417).
  2.  He was also the third highest wicket-taker in international cricket among left-arm pacers.
  3.  Zaheer with 311 Test wickets was the second-most successful Indian pace bowler in Test cricket, behind Kapil Dev with 434 Test wickets.
  4.  In 2011 he was conferred with the Arjuna Award, India`s second highest sporting award by the President of India. In 2008, he was also selected as one of the Wisden Cricketers of the Year. 

 

2) FIFA suspended Kuwait Football Association.
  •  Switzerland based Federation International de Football Association (FIFA) suspended Kuwait Football Association (KFA) with immediate effect.
  •  It was banned because of interference of the government officials in the running of the sports by the KFA.
  •  The suspension will be lifted only when the KFA and its members (the clubs) are able to carry out their activities and obligations independently.
Result of of this decision:
  1.  In accordance with the Article 14 of the FIFA Statutes, no team from Kuwait of any sort (including clubs) can have any international sporting contact, and neither the KFA nor any of its members or officials can benefit from any development programme, course or training from FIFA or the Asian Football Confederation (AFC).

3) National Cadet Corps National Games 2015 concluded.

  •  National Cadet Corps-National Games 2015 concluded with a spectacular finale in Delhi. 
  •  The games were conducted by the Directorate General of NCC Lt. General Aniruddha Chakravarty, and were attended by around 2000 cadets from 17 states and UTs directorates.
  •  The games saw competitions in seven sports disciplines, Football, Hockey, Athletics, Kabbadi, Kho-Kho, Volleyball and Shooting.
  •  The winners were presented with trophies for each event of the 11-day long sports event. Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh NCC Directorates won the Raksha Mantri Overall Champions trophy.
 
4) Denmark Open 2015 won by Li Xuerui after defeating PV Sindhu in the Final.
  •  PV Sindhu was defeated by Li Xuerui in the 2015 Denmark badminton open women’s singles final. For Sindhu, it was her maiden super series final.
  •  In the final match held in Odense, third largest city in Denmark, Sindhu lost to the Chinese Olympic champion in the straight sets.
  •  Till now, Prakash Padukone and Saina Nehwal are the only Indians to win the championships who won it in the men’s and women’s singles categories in 1980 and 2012 respectively.
  •  In the men’s single category, China’s Chen Long has won the 2015 title. He has won the title for record 3rd time after he had earlier won it in 2013 and 2014.
5) Novak Djokovic won 2015 Shanghai Rolex Masters tennis title.
  • The World Number 1 Tennis player Novak Djokovic won the 2015 Shanghai Rolex Masters tennis title in the men’s singles category by defeating Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.
  •  It was the third Shanghai title for Djokovic in four years, having defeated Andy Murray (the UK) and Juan Martin del Potro (Argentina) in the 2012 and 2013 finals respectively.
  •  Apart from the Grand slam titles in Australia, the UK (Wimbledon) and the USA, he won six other titles in the 2015 season that include Indian Wells Masters, Miami Open, Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters, Italian Open, China Open and Shanghai Open.
6)Great Britain beat India to win Sultan of Johor Cup Hockey tournament.
  •  Great Britain defeated defending champions India and captured Sultan of Johor Cup (SOJC) junior men`s hockey team.
  •  For the third place, the host Malaysia defeated Argentina to settle for Bronze.
  •  Participating countries in the 2015 edition of the tournament were: Malaysia, Australia, Great Britain, India, Argentina and Pakistan.
Awards won by players & Teams in SOJC:
  1.  Fair Play Award: Australia (finished fifth in the tournament)
  2.  Top Goal Scorer: Luke Taylor of Great Britain (10 goals)
  3.  Best Goalkeeper: Chris Wyver of Great Britain
  4.  Best Player: Harjeet Singh of India

7) Saketh Myneni won 2015 Vietnam Open Tennis Trophy

  •  India`s tennis player Saketh Myneni won the Vietnam Open tennis trophy in the men’s singles category by defeating Australia`s Jordan Thompson in the final.
  •  In the men’s doubles category, he, along with other Indian Sanam Singh, ended runner-up after losing the final to Tristan Lamasine and Nils Langer of France and Germany respectively.
  •  This is his first singles ATP Challenger title of the 2015 season and the second overall singles title at the Challenger level for Myneni.
  •  His only other title was the Indore Open that he clinched in October 2014.
 Baichung Bhutia appointed as AIFF’s Advisor:
  1.  Baichung Bhutia, former India Football captain appointed as the advisor for overall issues of the game and the Federation of All India Football Federation (AIFF). He is already the chairman of the AIFF`s technical committee.
  2.  The former India Football captain will be advising the Federation on improving the National Team`s performance and will also help in the development of the squad for the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup.
  3.  He will also advice on the licensing criteria of State FAs, development of Clubs and all other domestic Competitions, both men and women and across all age groups.
8) Vivo assigned the Title Sponsorship of Indian Premier League
  •  Board for Cricket Control in India (BCCI) assigned title sponsorship of Indian Premier League (IPL) to Brazilian mobile company M/S Vivo.
  •  Nike was retained as the apparel sponsor of the Indian cricket team during the annual meeting of the working committee of BCCI.
  •  Vivo was assigned the sponsorship after PepsiCo suddenly pulled out from a five-year deal that was supposed to end in 2017.
  •  PepsiCo`s decision to end its deal with IPL was reportedly caused by the spot-fixing scandal which shook the game in 2013.
 
9) Union Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports constituted All India Council of Sports
  •  Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports constituted All India Council of Sports headed by Prof V K Malhotra to advise the ministry on matters relating to the promotion and development of sports and games in the country.
  •  The Council will be an advisory body for the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports and will advise the Ministry on matters relating to the promotion and development of sports and games in the country including popularizing sports amongst the youth as a way of life.
10) AB de Villiers named brand ambassador of MRF.
  •  South African batsman AB de Villiers named as brand ambassador of Tyre manufacturing giant MRF.
  •  AB de Villiers, the ODI captain of South Africa team, in his new role will endorse the company’s products and services through advertising campaigns and other such promotional programmes during the term of the agreement.
  •  AB de Villiers is regarded as the current best batsman in the world and one of the greatest of all time.
 
11) Sehwag retired from all forms of International Cricket, IPL.
  •  Indian cricketer Virender Shewag retired from all forms of international Cricket and Indian Premier League (IPL). 
  •  Sehwag revealed his decision after signing up to play in 2016 Masters Champions League Twenty20 tournament in Dubai. 
  •  Masters Champions League, a UAE-based Twenty20 tournament requires its participants to have retired from all international format.
About Virender Shewag:
  1.  Sehwag played his debut One Day International in 1999 and joined the Indian Test team in 2001.
  2.  He was also the part of two World Cup winning teams under Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s leadership, 2007 World T20 in South Africa and the ICC ODI World Cup in India.
  3.  Sehwag holds multiple records including the highest score made by an Indian in Test cricket 319 against South Africa in Chennai, which was also the fastest triple century in the history of international cricket (reached 300 off only 278 balls).
  4.  He holds the record of fastest 250 by any batsman (in 207 balls against Sri Lanka on 3 December 2009 in Mumbai).
  5.  In April 2009, Sehwag became the only Indian to be honoured as the Wisden Leading Cricketer in the World for his performance in 2008, subsequently becoming the first player of any nationality to retain the award for 2009.
12) Champions Tennis League team Raipur Rangers named Anil Kumble as its Brand Ambassador.
  •  Former Indian captain and leg spinner Anil Kumble named as the brand ambassador of the Raipur Rangers – one of the franchises of Champions Tennis League (CTL).
  •  Raipur Rangers is co-owned by Abhishek Mishra and Chinmay Tiwari and will comprise players like Thomas Muster, Alize Cornet and Ramanathan Ramkumar.
  •  The Balbir Singh Juneja Indoor Stadium in Raipur will be the team`s home stadium. The Champions Tennis League was conceptualised by Vijay Amritraj in 2014.
