Style choices as they become responsible, self-motivated individuals.

1. Perform at least thirty minutes of weight-bearing exercise daily (walking, jogging, stair climbing, treadmill, elliptical trainer).  This exercise can be divided into sets, for instance, walking to and from school could be part of this exercise program. Additionally, participate in group sports and hone individual athletic skills; for instance, learn to swim if you haven’t done so already.
2. Learn to eat a well-balanced diet (consuming three servings of fruit and five servings of vegetables daily, cold-water, Omega 3 fatty fish three times weekly; cutting back on servings of red meat to at most twice a week and staying away from refined bakery goods and processed and junk foods).  Drink six to eight glasses of water daily. Develop a healthy body image, striving to be neither too fat nor overly thin. Both genders should learn to prepare healthy, balanced meals and should share dinner with the family, turning off the television and learning the fine art of conversation.
3. Learn to dress appropriately for the weather, taking off or putting on layers as necessary.  As Mom or Dad will probably chide, don’t wear flip flops and cut offs when it is snowing outside.
4. Don’t smoke–no matter how cool it looks now, you’ll wish you hadn’t picked up this habit by middle age.
 

5. Wash hands after using the toilet and before eating.
6. Learn anger management and how to argue effectively.  Practice respecting adults and authority figures (a useful trait for future employment).
7. Cut down on television watching and computer use.  Explore the world in person instead.  Visit interesting places, meet new friends, find a mentor in an older relative.
8. Practice healthy skin-care habits: Wash the face twice daily; moisturize during cold weather; start wearing an SPF sunscreen.
9. Learn how to be a loyal friend and confidant.
10. Brush with an ultra sound toothbrush twice daily; floss correctly.  Check with the dentist to see if you need braces.
