UPSC (Union public service commission) holds a common exam for the engineering categories. It includes Civil engineering, Mechanical engineering, Electrical engineering and Electronics and telecommunication engineering.
We can find all announcements by UPSC in Employment newspaper. In that they include all details like eligibility criteria, venue, exam date, syllabus, exam pattern, number of papers, total number of marks. For engineering category the UPSC exam structure is as below:
Paper I:
General Ability Test (It includes two parts Part A: General English, Part B: General Studies) and have 200 marks.
Paper II & III:
It includes the actual branch for which student have applied i.e., Civil Engineering/Mechanical Engineering/Electrical Engineering/Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering. This is an objective test and have 200 marks for each paper.
Paper IV & V:
It is also held branch wise .e., Civil Engineering/Mechanical Engineering/Electrical Engineering/Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering. This is a Conventional Type test and have 200 marks for each paper.
In this manner total 1000 marks are alloted for the 5 papers.After that there is a personality test which have 200 marks.
Educational Qualification: The student should have engineering degree or equivalent M.SC degree from a recognized university.
Age Limits: The age limit for the student is 21-30 years and also upper age limit is relaxable for some categories.
Examination Centers: There are so many exam centers for the examination and we can get the list from Employment newspaper.
How to Apply: We have to fill the application form with all details and send back to the UPSC office by post office. They will not except it from courier.
How to crack it: To crack UPSC exams we should refer to the old question papers which are available with answer in the market. This will give us a clear idea about exam pattern and also the weightage of specific topic. Solve the all previous question papers within time limit. That will boost your confidence.
