Tata Replaces Vivo As IPL Title Sponsor:
The Tata Group has replaced Chinese smartphone manufacturer Vivo as the IPL`s title sponsor.
Highlights:
- The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced that Tata Group will be a major sponsor of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2022 and 2023.
- It took the place of the Chinese smartphone manufacturer Vivo. The multinational corporation will pay Rs. 300 crore as the IPL`s headline sponsor for the next two seasons.
- This is nearly 60% less than what Vivo would have paid. Vivo stepped down as an IPL sponsor following the 2020 military standoff in Galwan Valley between India and China.
- At the time, Dream11, a mobile gaming platform, had stepped in as title sponsor for a year. Vivo made a comeback in 2021 and will do so again this year.
- Jamsetji Tata founded the Tata Group in Mumbai in 1868. Tata Sons` Chairman of the Board is Natarajan Chandrasekaran.
Security Concerns In Chinese Olympics App
Amid concerns about cybersecurity in the Chinese Olympics App, National Olympic Committees (NOC) are advising athletes from some Western nations to leave personal devices at home or use temporary phones during the Beijing Winter Games.

- NOCs will provide athletes and staff with temporary devices to eliminate security risks and combat any surveillance during the Games.
- From February 4 to February 20, the Games will be held in Beijing, China.
MY2022 app
- On a daily basis, all attendees will use the MY2022 app to track their health, specifically covid-19. However, it has security flaws.
- The app lacks file encryption and contains security flaws, leaving users vulnerable to data breaches.
United States Olympic And Paralympic Committee
- According to the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee, every text, online visit, email, and application access should be assumed to be compromised or monitored.
- While in Beijing, the advisory recommends renting or using disposable laptops and phones, as well as deleting all data from personal devices before and after travel.
- It also recommends that members install virtual private networks (VPNs) on their devices before leaving the US.
- While safeguards are in place to protect their systems and data, it adds that there should be "no expectation of privacy, data security, or privacy while they operate in China."
Other Countries
- The Canadian Olympic Committee also advised athletes to leave personal devices at home and to be extra cautious, citing the Olympics as a prime opportunity for cybercrime.
- The Swiss and Swedish committees will supply new devices to their teams and will brief them on cybersecurity measures.
- In addition, the British Olympic Association advised athletes and staff on how to bring personal devices to Beijing.
- Temporary devices would be provided to athletes who requested them.
