Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas Celebrated on 9 January:
The Pravasi Bhartiya Divas (PBD), also known as Non-Resident Indian Day, honours the contributions of Indians living abroad to the development of their homeland.
Highlights:
♦ Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas, which occurs every two years, is a day dedicated to the Indian community living in other countries.
♦ This day is observed by the people of India on January 9.
♦ The day is named after Mahatma Gandhi, our nation`s Father of the Nation and the greatest Pravasi.
♦ He returned from South Africa in 1915, becoming the leader of the Indian independence movement. As a result, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has observed this day every year since 2003, from January 07-09.
♦ This practise will bring together Indians living in other countries to share their knowledge, expertise, and talents on a common platform.
