Education Minister Nara Lokesh announced this change through a tweet. He clarified that several teachers and TDP Graduate MLCs had requested that holidays begin earlier, from September 22. After discussions with education department officials, the decision was finalized.
Originally, the government had sanctioned 9 days of holidays (September 24–October 2). With the extension, the holidays will now last 11 days (September 22–October 2). Since September 21 falls on a Sunday, students will effectively enjoy 12 consecutive days of holidays.
Meanwhile, in Telangana, the government declared Dussehra holidays from September 21 to October 3, giving students a total of 13 days off, with schools reopening from October 4.
Interestingly, this year Dussehra (October 2) coincides with Gandhi Jayanti, meaning students miss out on one extra holiday. Still, overall, students across both Telugu states are getting longer festive breaks to enjoy this season to the fullest.
