The Telangana government has once again extended the exemption from compulsory Telugu for non-Telugu-speaking students, postponing its implementation for higher classes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Hyderabad: The State government has provided further relief to students who do not speak Telugu as their mother tongue by extending the exemption from studying Telugu as a mandatory subject.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to a new memo issued by the School Education Department, the compulsory Telugu rule will not be implemented for Class X in the academic year 2026\u201327. Currently, this rule is also not applicable to Class IX students in 2025\u201326.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, students who are currently in Class VIII (2025\u201326) must study Telugu when they move to Class IX in 2026\u201327, as the exemption will not apply to them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The memo, signed by Education Department Secretary Yogita Rana, states:
\u201cThe government hereby extends the time period for implementation of Telugu as a compulsory subject for students studying Class IX during the academic year 2025\u201326 and Class X during the academic year 2026\u201327 in all schools across the State.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Officials explained that the decision was taken following representations and petitions filed by non-Telugu-speaking students in the High Court seeking exemption from the compulsory Telugu requirement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The State had earlier granted similar exemptions for the academic years 2024\u201325 and 2025\u201326.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Following the government\u2019s announcement, the School Education Department instructed all regional joint directors and district educational officers to inform schools about the revised guidelines and submit a compliance report.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
