On 26 November, Indian Constitution Day is observed. The day is observed in order to distribute the value of the constitution and to spread Ambedkar`s thoughts and ideas. The day is celebrated to mark the 71st anniversary of the Constituent Assembly`s adoption of the Indian Constitution this year.

 

On 26th November 1949, the constitution of India was adopted. It came into force on 26th January 1950, marking the beginning of a new era in the history of India. On 19th November 2015, during the year-long celebration of the 125th birth anniversary of Dr. B R Ambedkar, the Government of India declared November 26th as the Constitution Day. This initiative was undertaken by the  Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi who made this official declaration on 11th October 2015. Earlier, this day was celebrated as Law Day.

 

B.R Ambedkar was the one who drafted the Indian Constitution and the year 2015 was the 125th birth anniversary of Ambedkar. It is essential to be aware of Constitution Day history. On this day, attempts are made to generate general awareness of the Indian Constitution and spread his nationalist ideas. Constitution day is celebrated on 26th November every year by many schools where the students are made to read the Preamble to the Indian Constitution. As Indians, we must be aware of our Indian Constitution and this day attempts to generate that awareness in us.
