DRDO Systems Handed Over To Chiefs of Armed Forces:
Three indigenously developed Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) systems were handed over to the Army, Navy, and Air Force by the Defence Minister.
Systems handed over include:
♦ Indian Maritime Situational Awareness System (IMSAS) – Navy
♦ ASTRA Mk-I Missile – Air Force
♦ Border Surveillance System (BOSS) – Army
Indian Maritime Situational Awareness System (IMSAS):
IMSAS is the most modern, entirely indigenous, high-performance smart software framework that can provide global maritime charts, marine planning tools and analytical functions to the Indian Navy. In order to allow naval command and control, the device provides maritime operational images from the naval headquarters to each ship at sea (C2). The Center for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics (CAIR), Bangalore, and the Navy are conceptualising the framework. Bharat Electronics Co., Ltd.(BEL) in Bangalore.
ASTRA Mk-I:
It is the first indigenously produced Beyond Visual Range (BVR) missile and can be fired from Sukhoi-30, Light Combat Aircraft (LCA), Mig-29, and Mig-29K. The weapon system was developed and manufactured by Bharat Power Co., Ltd. (BDL), Hyderabad, by the Defense Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL), Hyderabad.
Border Surveillance System (BOSS):
This is an automated all-weather monitoring device. The device has been deployed for day and night surveillance in the Ladakh Border Region. The system enables tracking and monitoring by automatically detecting intrusions in harsh sub-zero temperature regions with remote operating capabilities at high altitudes. The Instrument Research and Development Agency (IRDE), Dehradun, designs and develops it. It is manufactured by Machilipatnam`s Bharat Electronics Co., Ltd. (BEL).
India successfully test fired MRSAM:
India successfully tested a medium-range surface-to-air missile (MRSAM) fired off the Odisha coast on 23 December. The Indian Army is expected to induct rockets. It will greatly increase the battle performance of the defence forces.
Highlights:
♦ The missile was launched at pad number-1 of the Integrated Test Range from a ground mobile launcher (ITR).
♦ With precision, the missile reached the target and was tracked by different radars and electro-optical instruments.
♦ In collaboration with Israel Aerospace Industries, the missile was jointly produced.
♦ The unmanned air vehicle (UAV) Banshee was first flown into the air and was struck by MRSAM. Bharat Dynamics Ltd developed the MRSAM.
