Serbia`s Novak Djokovic won his record 8th Men`s singles title in the Australian Open at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne. He beat first-time Australian Open finalist Dominic Thiem of Austria. The men`s doubles title clinched by Joe Salisbury of UK and American Rajeev Ram, who beat Australia`s Luke Saville and Max Purcell.

Novak became the first tennis player in the open Era of men single team to win a Grand Slam at three different decades. Goa 2020 National Games unveils Rubigula as mascot:
Rubigula, Flame-Throated Bulbul unveiled as the official mascot for the Goa 2020 National Games. The Flame-Throated Bulbul is the state bird of Goa. The mascot Rubigula will generate the interest of people towards the National Games. The mascot incorporates the best elements and characteristics of Goa and the Goan people.
The state has world-class infrastructure fo the games. World-class infrastructure has been created for these Games, which will benefit sportspersons in the State. The Games will help imbibe a sports culture in the State. We are expecting a grand celebration from October 20 to November 4, which will bring athletes from across India. Goa will be hosting the 36th edition of the National Games from 20th October to 4th November 2020.
The event will see participation by 36 states, and union territories, 12,000 + athletes, officials and will host 37 sports disciplines across 24 venues in Goa. 36th National Games will begin in Goa from October 20 to November 4. More than 12,000 athletes, as well as officials, will participate in the tournaments.
Rakhi Halder won gold at Senior Womens National Weightlifting Championships:
Rakhi Halder of Bengal claimed gold in the 64kg category of the 35th edition of the Senior Women`s National Weightlifting Championships at Khudiram Anushilan Kendra in Kolkata. She lifted 93 kg in snatch and 117 kg in clean and jerk on 5 January 2020. She lifted 10kg ahead of Harjinder Kaur of Chandigarh, her rival.
Rakhi Halder:
Halder is ranked 19th in the Olympic qualifiers list. She has personal best of 218 kg (95kg in snatch and 123 kg in clean and jerk) at the Qatar International Cup in 2019 and won the bronze medal. At the Commonwealth Championship in June 2019, she bagged gold with a total lift of 214-kg.
